that a detergent company is trying to sell us a cleaner for our washing machines.
Do you think we really need that? If you run a load of clothing, etc., through the washer, rinse it and let the machine air dry (by leaving the lid open), how could there ever be dirt or a bad smell in the interior of the washer?
The top part of the washer (I have a top loader) under the lid gets dirty, but I clean that with a damp rag. I have never seen any dirt left in my washer and there has never been a smell emanating from it - other than bleach. I can see how it could mildew in humid climates, or if you never left the lid open so it can air out.
So what is your opinion? Will you buy a special cleaner for the interior of your washing machine? If so, why?

No. No need for it. Like you, my Top Loader never smells bad or collects dirt! Who thinks these things up? The Greed Patrol??
Needed! My daughter's beau washes his clothes in my washer (my washer is on it's last legs anyway) and there is an oily greasy mess left after he is done.
I have a huge white blanket (we never use) that I wash after his load of clothes, I add soap and bleach with the blanket to clean the machine (need friction against the oil grime to rub it off).
Anymore, I just squirt Shout stain remover onto a sponge and rub it off - it is mostly a rim of grime along the water line.
It is needed, trust me!

No need for something that bleach will take care of or soap. My front loader washer can get moldy if the door is shut and sometimes even when its been open. A nice bleachy run takes care of that. No special products required.

I heard two cups of vinegar works just as well. I guess it depends what you kinds of things you wash. I have a 15 year old washer and my clothes weren't smelling quite like they should. The vinegar fixed it.
I've heard there is a problem with front loading washers that requires a cleaner.

My front loader gets mucky round the door seal. And you have to get right in the folds with a good wet rag, but otherwise, no, its fine! I wouldn't buy a special cleaner!
No but some of the dishwashers (I don't use one) look pretty glucky in the innards.
