Will It Ever Be Over?

We've been waiting for the brick masons to start repairing the chimney, and they are stuck on another job which has been delayed due to rain. Now - rain is causing a problem for us. Wednesday evening, my son and my younger daughter were here for dinner, and she noticed that there is a crack in the ceiling of our den over the fireplace, and it also has water damage and brown staining. We had a bad storm last night and apparently, it rained into the crack of the chimney and seeped into the ceiling.
I can hardly believe that she saw it and neither mr. kenju nor I did; but to be fair, it isn't that readily noticeable. I immediately removed everything from the mantel and the hearth. Luckily we are not scheduled to have more rain tonight, but it pays to be careful. I am so ready for all this to be over and with all the damage, I fear it will take months!

Work will keep me away from the computer for most of the next three days, so visiting may be sparse. On Sunday, we may get to watch our older grandson get inducted into the National Honor Society - a real thrill for me as I get to relive my own induction to it - in 1958. We are so proud of him!!

Lord! That is really a drag, Judy....! I'm surprised they didn't cover the whole Chimney in a Blue Tarp, till they could get to your job....It's not like you can use the Fireplace...? Here, that is what they do when there is a roof problem or a Chimney problem---I have a neighbor down the hill who had a Blue Tarp on for years...!!

Congrats to your Grandson...! That is fabulous!

My heart goes out to you with all this hassle. I hope the chimney and rain damage are sorted very soon.

Oh no, I thought that was behind you. Hope you can get that leak fixed before more damage is done.
Congrats big time on the new Honor Society member. Be proud.

Wow, what other structural damage are you not yet aware of? This is very concerning.

Congratulations to your grandson. You deserve to be so proud of him and it was a good reason for you to brag a little on yourself. LOL

Judy--You can be excused for not having noticed the crack/seepage. After all, how much time do we spend in contemplating our ceilings? Easily missed for a few years.

Congratulations to your smart and/or hard-working family. When I was in high school, we knew about the NHS; but, we were affiliated with The Beta Club, instead. (Friendly rivalvy.)

What a nightmare, as Naomi said, why wasn't the chimney covered with something to protect your house against the elements? We've had some water damage here in our house and it's a right pain to repair.

Oh I do hope you soon get that work done, but I can imagine that the builders over there are stretched to the limit.

And that is a lovely photo of you in your post before this one!

Ugh, I am so sorry that now, you have to deal with that also. So glad your daughter noticed. Its easier for someone to come in & see something that you have not seen :)

Congrats to your grandson! What an honor! And the fact that he is following in your footsteps is the greatest honor :) He's a chip off the old block :)
