I Fell and I Almost Couldn't Get Up.....Update!

On Monday morning, I was walking from my kitchen to my bathroom to take a shower, and I tripped and fell flat, onto hardwood flooring. I hit my left-side ribs (mostly) and my cheek. I don't have the strength I used to have, and that, coupled with the slippery flooring, made it hard for me to get up. I scooted on my butt over to my bed, and pulled the comforter off onto the floor so I could use it to pad my knees. If I have knee padding, I can get up on my hands and knees. But without padding, I'd be lost.

Jim was right behind me; barking orders - as he does when he is scared. My falling always frightens him - mostly  he thinks about what might have happened, not what did happen. But I know he was just worried about me. Once I assured him I did not break any bones, he calmed down.

I am still very sore, but I thought by now I would have some bruising to show for it. The last time I fell (breaking my collarbone) the bruises showed up on day 4, and they were bad.  This time, I have no proof it happened....lol.  It has not slowed my schedule down any. On Monday, I went to a neighborhood luncheon. On Tuesday, I played Scrabble at the clubhouse and Tuesday night, I went to a comedy performance at the club house.  on Wednesday, I went to the funeral for a high school classmate who lived in this area. Today I went to the grocery store and tomorrow I am invited for tea at a friend's home. I am looking forward to a quiet weekend.

Next week we celebrate our 54th anniversary. We have not made any plans yet.....we will probably order takeout. After so many years, we don't feel the need to "paint the town red".

Update:  I finally went to the doc yesterday (July 5th.) The pain from the fall was getting steadily worse instead of better. I really began to think I might have broken or cracked a rib or two. But x-rays showed no such thing, so the doc prescribed a tube of Voltaren cream and 3 pain pills. I halved the pain pills and took one last night; affording me a very good night of sleep with no pain. I guess I just have to wait it out.

T. A. P. S. Club annual dinner at Rey's

My  husband started a club for pipe smokers 21 years ago and very year they have an "expo" where people from all over the east coast come to display, buy and sell pipes and tobaccos and other accoutrements.

The people who help put on the show and those who work on the day of the show are given money with which to buy their dinner at a restaurant where we gather for a group celebration of a job well done. Additional profits are donated to charity.

This year we opted to go to Rey's in Cary, NC. You'll see  parts of the menu on the left.

This is the lobster and shrimp bisque that I had. The only problem with it was that it ended too soon. While the bisque was ample, I could have easily eaten double the amount!!
This is Jim's shrimp cocktail.  Unfortunately, only four shrimp are served......a skimpy amount I think.
The bananas Foster and Cherries Jubilee are made tableside by the owner (Rey) and they are both so good you wouldn't believe it.  The portions are ample too.

I forgot to photograph my margarita, as well as the veal piccata....which we both ate. We also both ordered garlic mashed potatoes, which were delicious, but too much to eat along with everything else. I think the next time we go there, we will share the side order (s).

Others at the dinner had lobster tail and filet mignon, or other steaks. All of it was pronounced excellent.

When the bill came, it included 3 mixed drinks, and I had only had one. Jim doesn't drink, so that was a mistake. Luckily the waiter remembered, and was happy to change the bill for us.

On the way home, I realized I had eaten way too much. Perhaps I ought to have passed over the three pieces of bread I ate before my bisque arrived.

Graduations are being held all over the country....

and we went to see our youngest granddaughter graduate from high school last Friday night.

We met up with the rest of the family and went to Hickory Tavern for dinner. While seated at a tall table, my granddaughter's sister reached for her glass of water (a giant one) and knocked it into her sister's (the graduate's) lap; drenching her from lap to feet.  She had on a pretty yellow dress with a chiffon overlay, and it was dripping.  That put a considerable damper on the festivities, as she had to go home and change. When she returned, she was not hungry. I felt sorry for her.

Then we went to the football stadium at her high school (Union Pines in Moore Co., NC, near Pinehurst) This photo appeared in their local paper that Sunday. You can find me by looking for the q-tip white hair (below the balloons) on the far right. I am surrounded by 7 of my family; three kids and two grandkids, and my son-in-law. Jim stayed at home; his knee has been bothering him and even with a walker, he would have had a hard time negotiating the parking lot and field.

The grads enter the field; it was 7:30 pm and 88*.

Notice how far we are from the graduates and the stage?  I cannot fathom why they would set up the field this way. Why not place the chairs and stage between the bleachers; not at the far end of the field? Hardly anyone could see or hear anything that went on.

The principal asked that no one shout and scream when their graduate's name was called, so that everyone could hear....of course, it did no good at all. How inconsiderate!! In fairness, the yells were short enough that most names could be heard, but it was not nice of those people to disregard the request for quiet.

When we left the stands, it was 82* (8:45 pm) and we were all drenched with perspiration. I would have liked nothing more than a shower and something to drink - but we headed home for the hour-long ride. This is our last graduation for a while.  Two more granddaughters will graduate college in the next few years and this latest graduate in 4 years. It is wonderful to see all of them getting a good education; I hope they all realize how lucky they have been, and show gratitude to their mother, who made it possible.

On Saturday, I went to a play.....

And despite the sad premise, I enjoyed it.  Below is a pic of the stage, minus a very fancy hospital bed. The whole play takes place in a hospital room and doctor's office.

The main character has become a paraplegic, due to a car accident.  She has been in the hospital for 5 months and wishes to leave. The docs tell her she will die if they release her - which is what she wants - rather than to live in a bed for the rest of her life.

I won't give away the ending....

This is the stage, with the nurse's station and doc's office in the rear.

I was impressed with the cast, crew and director of this play and I will look forward to seeing some of their productions in the future.
