We had out-of-town company last weekend and I had a new recipe from the Mayo Clinic website I wanted to try. It was mushroom & wild rice soup, and it sounded so good, and was said to be heart-healthy, or some-such label. I planned to serve it with salad and cornbread, and so I set about to make it the afternoon our guest was to arrive.
Something went wrong and I think I might know what it was. I have many measuring cups, but my go-to cups are Pyr*x , in 2 and 4 cup measures. Therein lies the danger. I think I put 2 cups of fat-free half and half in the soup, instead of the one cup it called for. The soup was supposed to thicken after the half and half was added, but mine simply wouldn't get any thicker. It was edible, despite being watery and it needed seasoning added to counteract the excess liquid. Next time I make it, I will be more careful. It was better the second day, when I added some butter, more spices and herbs.
Luckily, the salad and cornbread were good although I will admit to forgetting to put the grape tomatoes into the salad. I don't know where my brain went on Friday afternoon, and I'm not sure it has come back home yet.
Has your brain skipped town lately?

Oh yes. It went out on the fast train.
Yes - all the time. I saw on the news that Statin drugs might cause forgetfulness. Now I have an excuse!
Well, last week I forgot to put the tuna in the tuna salad...Does that count?
I think it's having a sabbatical.
My brain has been MIA for longer than I care to admit.
I am always a space case. For future reference, you can mix flour and water in a measuring cup and use that to thicken liquids - or cornstarch.
It sounds like a great meal, though!
Flown the coop, gone with the wind, I thought it was Saturday all day Sunday until four grandchildren trooped in for our Sunday afternoon of playing "Settlers of Catan."
Oh yeah....my brain seems to be making more and more frequent trips to 'other places.' Maybe all of our brains are meeting together somewhere laughing....their brains out. (Pun intended) ~Joy
For Pete's sake. I cannot blame my forgetfulness on Statins. I was forgetful before they were even invented. I forgot to go to a final or two, in college (truly!); I forgot to put yeast in bread when I was in my 30s. I told my boss (when I was in my 50s) that, between us we could forget anything. No big deal!

I had to cut out Statins they nearly crippled me. They are not the wonder drug we are led to believe.
As for foodie mistakes... I blogged about one last week. :(
Mine has been AOWL for way too long. Oops is normal nowdays, success is the rare event.
My brain ran screaming several years ago. I find, now that I'm old, that I don't miss it.
Yep I think we all agree that our brains let us down constantly! You are not alone!
My brain is still on the cruise ship. Everything I did at work today took twice as long as it should ave.
LOL, LOL....Oh Yes. It skips town on a semi regilar basis!!!
I'd love some of that Corn Bread right now, Judu..It sounds yum yum yummy!
Oh yes, my brain has taken permanent leave! Didn't know that statins can cause forgetfulness, my excuse now, too!!
