I Could Have Run a Marathon!

Today was haircut day and new glasses day and wreath supplies buying day and pharmacy day and grocery day,  and the way I feel,  I might as well have run a marathon. Driving all over town while getting in and out of the car numerous times (and waiting for mr. kenju to catch up with me) is very tiring. Whew!

I might have mentioned this before, but mr. kenju found out a few months ago that the last ophthalmologist who gave him a prescription for new lenses reversed the script, so that the left lens was really on the right and vice-versa. Either that, or the optician reversed them - but no one will own up to it, so we are stuck. He went to a new eye doctor recently, and that guy was the one who noticed that the lenses were opposite. Today, mr. kenju picked up his new glasses and he was acting like a kid in a candy store......"WOW! I can see again.....You don't look fuzzy now......I can read those signs!.....It did my heart good, until he told me I look 25 years younger. Then I knew he was full of it.....lol

Tomorrow is my youngest child's 40th birthday. She doesn't look her age - and neither do my other two children (they take after their father.) It hardly seems possible that it has been 40 years since I went into Wake Memorial Hospital (now called Wake Medical Center) to give birth. I do remember it like it was yesterday, but then I can easily remember going in for all three of them, in 1966, 1969 and 1971. Back then, no one knew the sex of the child before the birth and we stayed in the hospital for at least 5 days (it was 7 days for  first one.)  I find it hard to believe that women go home on the 2nd day now - I'd take all the rest time I could get! The little bit of rest you can get in a hospital is the last good rest some new mothers get for months! How many days did you stay in the hospital when you gave birth?

P.S.  Happy Birthday, Sweetpea!

With Colin (regular ol natural delivery) it was 2 days. I should have gone back on day 4 as I'd got so sick from being in the hospital that I could barely take care of myself, let alone a newborn.

With Mace - 4 days. C-section babies rock. :)

Happy bday to the baby of your family!

I forgot to mention that we also got flu shots today; just another thing in a long line of errands.

I had my daughter in 1966 and in those days you stayed several days, 8-10 I think. I had her in a Maternity Unit - Midwives only, my GP came in to stitch me up (Ouch!). Difficult cases went to the Hospital in the big town.

And we didn't know the sex before the baby popped out. I had convinced myself I was having a boy as I secretly longed for a girl, and was delighted to have a little daughter!

Sounds like a lovely day. I never gave birth, but I was discharged from the hospital less than 18 hours after having surgery to remove my gallbladder. They just let you recover at home these days.

40 Special Birthday wishes to Sweetpea! Life is only beginning.

Gosh Judy, you certainly know how to pack the jobs in. Mind you, I like to come back after a day like kick off the shoes sit back and enjoy a drink!

I gave birth in '68 and '71 and left the hospital after two days! Five to seven days sounds more like my mothers experience in '33 and '40. Gladys

Tomorrow my son will be 41:) If you count the day I spent in the hospital before he was born (18 hours labor) I was there four days. Only three days of that was spent resting. We did not have insurance so they kicked us out pretty fast but still a longer stay than these days. We almost never got the $500 hospital bill paid. Whew, times have changed.

By the way, you could have used all my sister's drive-thru windows yesterday couldn't you?

Kind of a Happy Mother's Day for you. My eldest turned 40 October 5th. He was three weeks early but since he was over 6 pounds, they sent us home after 2 days.

Wow you sound very very busy! I bet it's very good for you really. You pack in a great deal more than I do in a day!

Judy--Are you out of your mind? Did you really get any rest in the hospital? If so, you are fortunate. I could not wait to go home after childbirth. The place was so busy and noisy that I got no sleep. And I had to stay a day extra with the one in 1962 because she looked a bit yellow to the Dr & he was worried about rh factor problems.
Seriously, too many people pick up infections while hospitalized. It is safer to be at home with the bugs to which we are accustomed!

P.S. Happy belated birthday to your Sweetpea.
