A Pet Peeve

I went to the store this week for some birthday wrapping paper (seems odd to have to buy that in December) and ran smack into a pet peeve I have had for some time: shopping carts which are not put back where they are supposed to go.

I am not referring to carts rolling about the parking lot at will - or left parked on the curb - or in the parking lanes - but the ones that people roll to the edge of the cart corral and then leave them there on the fringe. Why in heaven's name can't you push the darn carts together and put them all the way into the corral?

It only takes a minute, people, and if you can push it to the edge of the corral, you can go one or two steps further, can't you? I would appreciate it, plus I know the store personnel would love it. Most of the cart corrals around here look like bumper cars at the fair; carts sitting in every direction, touching, but piled in there willy-nilly.

If you have thought about practicing random acts of kindness and have yet to start - why not make that your good deed from now on?

Have you noticed this too and does it bother you as much as it does me?

Michele sent me over again, Judy.

I have noticed that though it doesn't bother me a lot, Judy. I'm on the anal side and have a love of rules so I always push my cart in as far as it'll go. I like to leave it nested as well so I'll always join my cart to the back of another. It doesn't bother me though that others don't do this so it doesn't qualify as a pet peeve for me. Now people that leave empty bags or paper in shopping carts--that bothers me!

I can't stand it when people leave their carts in parking spaces...and that space is the only place to park!

It really only annoys me if they leave carts in a parking space, thus making it unavailable for my car. Now, that annoys me.

Well, I notice the shopping carts. Un-empowered shopping carts seem to be all over the place.
I think what irritates me more is shoppers who suddenly stop in a main thourough-fare asile to talk, parking the carts in such a way to block shopping traffic in both directions, and not even notice what they did.
They world is full of self-centered people who think no one counts but them.

Yes it annoys me too! But more than that is buying birthday wrapping paper and cards in December...damn near impossible! People didn't stop getting born because it's Christmas Mr Shop Owner!!

Here from Michele's today!

I just saw a woman run over a guy's foot at Target today. Yeah, that's kind of peevey. I can come up with quite the list, myself... that one's kind of in the middle of the pack.

Here via Michele today.

One of my pet peeves has to do with all the people who whiz through parking lots at the grocers and other shopping malls at speeds faster than the speed of sound. They act as if they are practicing for the Indy 500.

Judy,

If I may, let me try to "go you one better." I share your peeve about the carts, but I resolved to do something about it. Now, every time I go to our local super WalMart I ALWAYS grab a cart that's loose near where I parked (and there are always some there!) and wheel it up to the door and inside the store. I figure if just half the customers each took one cart back into the store, the problem would go away. So I'm setting the example. No, I don't think it's catching on, but I'm going to keep doing it. Even if I don't need a cart for shopping I'll take one. It's really no effort at all, so why not. And it helps clean up the parking lot of carts everywhere.

Like John, I grab the nearest cart (or two) from the parking lot and take them inside with me. More trying than the random distribution of carts that I find going into a parking lot is coming back out to find one or two carts that I must remove before I can get into my car or get it out of the parking space. Worse yet: soiled diapers in a parking lot. Ugh! 'Nuff said!

Because I don't go into any stores anymore, I don't see this, BUT, I sure used to...And I don't understand it either..Except it follows along with the ME-ME-ME-generation and the not caring about the other person....

GOT INTERUPTED: Sorry about that...I was just about to post this...!

My favourite supermarkets parking lot has a slight slope so it's the run-away carts that worry me Judy, I don't care where they leave 'em as long as they don't roll into cars.

What bothers me even more is when impatient people ram them into the back of my legs and I have developed a glare that can freeze at ten paces. If only folk would realise that pushing the trolley to where it should go is a bit of painless exercise and will burn off a few calories.

That is very annoying....and I have no clue what accounts for it. As you said, if you're going to walk over there with it...WHY not push it all the way in. People are strange....lol

Yea...I can relate, but sometimes when I'm in a hurry, I'm one of the bad people. And, when I am, I swear I actually worry about it later, wondering if the cart I left in the wrong place hit anyone's car later.

I try when I go to the store to take one out of the parking lot into the store instead of choosing one from the line.
