I tore this quote out of Oprah's magazine several years ago; it seemed important to keep. Now that I have read it again, I realize that for me - it means my blog. That's my "little back shop".

What else do I have that is untouched by others (except when I allow it to be, by posting photos or other's writings)? My blog does allow true freedom to write whatever I want, and to divulge as much or as little as I wish. What truer freedom is there?
What about you? Is your blog your "little back shop" too?

I think my blog is my outlet for exhibitionism, Judy. At least that's my best guess at the moment for my motivation. I'm glad that your blog allows you such a measure of freedom.

My blog allows to me to be a 'grandmother with her grandchildren's photos'...which I love by the way. But my little children are furry, still I love them as devotely.

I've come to love sharing little pieces of my past and present and the wonderful exchange of ideas through comments.
But, as you say, you only reveal what you really want to...

I agree that it can be true freedom. I'm a little incognito in my blog due to not wanting certain people to find it, so I can be truly free to say what I wish. (Although that is slowly changing)
But, it is definately more for me than for others.

My blog is definitely just for me. Not exactly my little back shop, but close.

Very close. I truly express myself freely on my blog, regardless of who is reading. :)

Yes, most of the time. Now that family members all over the country read it, I do temper it somewhat. Only in certain posts though.

Yes, I am able to take what crowds into every corner of my mind and heart and make it tangible on my blog...where I can review it in the light of day :)

I like that image. I don't write as frequently as I'd like, so I guess mine would be more like a faraway vacation home to which I escape whenever I'm able.

I usually feel free to post what I want to but thik twice if I believe I might cause someone pain. I don't mean offend them, I mean hurt their feelings. Does that me I'm less free? If so, it's OK with me.
PS--I absolutely loved yesterday's post about no left turns. So true and so wonderful to read about happy families and folks who live til they die.
Thanks, Judy. I would have missed it.

My blogs are different...one is more to keep family and friends up with what is going on since we're scattered around the country. My other blog is a 'scrapbook' of sorts for a group of students I took on a European trip.
I loved reading your blog...how did I find it??? not sure but I'm glad I did!

Well, I think all the things I have always created and continue to create are my little back shop...the painting, the writing, the composing...they are all mine in a sense and though I share much of it, it is still from the treasure trove of my heart and mind and no one elses...
A very interesting and provocative question Judy....Good Post, my dear!

Great Quote...
Yes, indeed. My Little Back Shop. The one overgrown with wild flowers and populated by cats and chocolate and hummingbirds.

Absolutely. I started my blog as a writer's playground of sorts, a place to jot words that could either go somewhere, or not. No editors, no producers, nothing...just my space.

It still is. And I'm blessed to have been able to share it with fascinating and giving people like you.

My blog is just a hot mess.

My blog started out to be a chronicle of my life for my children, but it has become "a little bit of this, a little bit of that..."

It has become an avenue of meeting some wonderful people.

Great post Judy...

I enjoyed reading what others had to say about their blogging venture also.

If I ponder the question long enough I suppose there are a number of reasons I blog. I am not sure it could be called my "little back shop". Overall I think of it quite like what you wrote I suppose.

For my blogging...I think first and foremost is to be able to interact with those of my generation sharing experiences and thoughts, giving some consolation that what you write is more a shared experience rather than some personalized event.

Jeez, Brenda beats me here too??? Inconceivable!

My blog is my own haven of misspelling and grammatical mistakes. It's also the place where I go in my mind to be saturated in the warmth of like three visitors a day. So HA on Oprah. It's also going to win me the Pulitzer. I know this because I paid some guy $20 for an online Pulitzer, or was it Putziler? No, pretty sure it's Pulitzer. Anyway, once I receive this coveted prize, I'm going to laud it over all of you and talk about how great I am.

Hmmm, actually I already do that.

Shoot, who needs a Pulitzer? Gimme back my twenty bucks buddy!

I'd never thought about it before, but yes, I suppose my blog is just that :)

My blog provides a place for freedom of expression. It is so enjoyable to just write about whatever I feel like and share with whomever stops by some tidbits from my life.
I live the Curious Georage monkey!!! My daughter would go nuts over him. She loves monkeys and pirates.
I hope you enjoy your time in NYC. My parents and brother flew home from AR to CA without any problems. I hope you don't encounter any delays.

I wish I had started my blog as a little back shop, with some annonymously. While I don't mind that my family and friends read it, there are times when I would like to vent or talk about something that I don't want my kids to read.
And that's usually when I think about starting up a second blog. It just seems like yet another thing to do around her eat the moment. Maybe someday.
But this post has got me thinking, and I realize I need more outlets... just for me.
