Remember This Guy? Uh-huh.

Ed Rabel was NBC's Pentagon correspondent and earlier reported for CBS. Rabel worked in radio in Charleston before becoming news director of WCHS-TV in Charleston. He held that position from 1963 to 1966. After his broadcasting career, he spent four years with Weber McGinn, an international public relations firm in Washington, and subsequently became a consultant. He was born in Nitro, WV and considers St. Albans his hometown. He attended St. Albans High School and is a 1963 graduate of Morris Harvey College.

I went to Morris Harvey also (now the University of Charleston) and several days ago I received a phone call from Ed Rabel, who pretended to remember me when I said "Long time no see", but I know that's a crock. We only had one class together. He is now working for the university, ostensibly spreading the word about what is being built and what we grads can expect for the future of the school. I call it foraging for money. Uh-huh.

Ed is coming to my home in early August to show me two DVD's about the school. I said "Ed, if you are coming to get money, you should know that none would be forthcoming, so I hesitate to take up any of your time." He assured me that was not his intention at all. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

Color me cynical. But at the very least, I may get a photo and an autograph and certainly a whole blog post about it. Uh-huh.

Read about Ed in this article:

He will be sitting in my living room in 2 weeks. And I just know he wants money. Uh-huh!

Yes, indeed, they can be mighty friendly when they're looking for donations.

I wouldn't call you cynical, just realistic! Of course they want money!
Off to NY tomorrow, gone two weeks and taking a laptop of Nyssa's. I hope we can find an internet portal somewhere.

Of course he wants money. Have you seen how much they're growing at UC? My grandma's house is about five doors down from where your girlfriend posed a couple of weeks ago. Kanawaha Avenue, to the right of the school if you're standing on MacCorkle facing the entrance.

And also, did you know my dad was the radio 'color man' for the Morris Harvey Golden Eagles basketball team broadcasts? *rofl* It sure is a small world. Or at least a small hometown. ;-)

I guess even old broadcasters have to hold the hat out every once in a while.

It's still cool that he's coming to see you, though. See if he'll pose for a picture. I'm sure a few of us could pony up, say, five bucks, if he agrees.

Hey, Kenju. Michele sent me, and I've never given a dime to my alma mater!

I think you are right. Long lost friends that you hardly know hardly show up just to embrace you as an old frend. Keep a chain on your wallet.

Yes, I do know who he is! Wow, what a brush with greatness. How cool is that? Judy, did you ever think that maybe he's giving you and award or something like that? You never know....

Hope you're having a great Friday!

...oops. Michele sent me. Sorry!

I'm betting that he'll ask for deferred money, as in a legacy, behest, or some such term meaning that you'll pledge to remember the ol' alma mater in your will. That way he can say, "I'm NOT asking for money... Er, not NOW, at least."

Yeah, I'll be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Color me cynical as well.
