I Recommend This.....

I just completed a book in 3 days, which is almost unheard of here. It usually takes me weeks to finish one, since I only read about 30 minutes per day. This book was different. I was captured completely within 30 pages and I simply could not put it down until my eyes closed despite my efforts to keep them open!

"The Lovers" by Morris West, "Is a brilliantly suspenseful tale of love stolen, love lost, and in the end astonishingly rediscovered. A poignant and intimate novel by a master storyteller", said Mary Higgins Clark.

That makes it sound like only a love story, but there is something for everyone here; betrayal, suspense and murder, set on the seas around Italy, in an aura of multinational intrigue and power.

Some of West's other books are "The Devil's Advocate", "The Shoes of the Fisherman" and "The Clowns of God". Read about Morris West here:

This book was published in 1993, and I bought it at Goodwill for $1. At the same time, I bought another one, "Masterclass", published in 1988, and I am starting it soon. If it holds my attention the same way that "The Lovers" did, I may not be around here for a few days....LOL.

I had been really bad about reading until I got into audiobooks. Now I find myself listening and then noticing that four hours have elapsed...I've read three books in the last week. Talk about UNHEARD of!!! I listen in the car, in bed, in the bathtub, everywhere... I just love it.

It's even nicer when the book is read by the author.

I'll look for "The Lovers"... sounds like a winner!

Audio books are great for long trips when you are mostly by yourself. I listened to a Dickens piece and Hemingyway reading his classic "The Old Man & The Sea" on the trip to and from Sewanee last year. It was great.

Judy, the public library here checks out audio books just like regular books. No charge.

I was going to say the same thing about the library. I actually belong to Audible.com, so I download my books and put them on my iPod!

I'm a book addict... I used to work at a book store and it was everything I could do NOT to bring a book home everynight.

Doncha just love it when you get swept away by a book? I'm a HUGE reader, and I get so involved in books sometimes that I forget where I am. I just go right inside the book. I'm mostly a non-fiction reader, but I'm always up for a good novel. I'll look for this one.

I read "The Shoes of the Fisherman" years and years ago. I don't remember it all that well although I think I enjoyed it at the time. Morris West must have had a long writing career.
Here from Michele's.

Hi Judy ~~ I don't seem to get much time for reading, apart from the papers and magazines and the computer, but it sounds like a good book. Thanks for you visit. I liked the same line as you " not to speak on everything and every
occasion" and trying to use our vast knowledge !!! Take care, Merle.

I both read and listen to books. An audiobook can have so much depth when narrated by a person with a good vocal range.

When I worked in a downtown Montreal office and commuted 90 minutes on the subway each way, I used to read books voraciously. I started work at 7 a.m., so I could sit in a car to myself and read to my heart's content. It was so genteel.

Then I moved to London and started bike-commuting. Better for my physical health, but not so much for my literary health.

Now that I have an iPod, I'm thinking I may need to start getting audiobooks to fill the time gaps in my life. There aren't many - I'm way busier now than I was when I lived in Mtl, thanks to my double-life as a writer - but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try to get back into it. I miss it.

Thanks for the push.

Sounds like a good one! I'll have to try it. I've been such a lazy reader this summer. Can't seem to get into anything! Thanks for the recommendation!

Michele sent me back. Hope you're having a great Sunday!
