Addenda below.
I took these photos last Friday, before the heavy rains hit. Now the gardenias (at least 25 of them) are drooping near the ground or deck, hanging on for dear life. There are a lot more buds on the plant though, so I'll have them for at least 10 more days, I think.
The wonderful aroma that wafts through the air when you walk out onto the deck is heavenly, if not downright orgasmic. It is too bad we don't have "smell-a-vision" or "smell-a-web", so I could share it with you. ENJOY!
*** the skies have opened up again, pouring harder than ever. The gardenias don't stand a chance, I fear. The pool almost reached the overflow point yesterday, so today's rain should do it. If this keeps up, we will have a deja vu about the back woods creek we had after Alberto. Having suffered through a drought for the last 1 1/2 years - it is odd to have the water levels filled and surpassed all in one week!

Ohhh yes! That wonderful fragerance...Nothing like it, is there? Beautiful, Beautiful...And I love seeing so many blossoms all at once! I can almost smell them, I swear!

Boy, I wouldn't mind walking out onto your deck right now! What a pretty scene! I just love the scent of gardenias.
These are just gorgeous! I have a magnolia tree that refuses to bloom....not one flower this year or last year, so I envy your gardenia's. They have an intoxicating fragrance.

My favorite flower in the whole world! And oh how I would love a whiff!
Memories! My mother's favorite flower was the gardenia, and when I was growing up she had one for a house plant. I swear it bloomed year round, and the house often was filled with that wonderful perfume.

In my opinion, Gardenias are the sweetest smelling flower. Yours look beautiful.
Oh God, yes! Orgasmic is the right description, Judy. There's something so right, so intense about gardenias. I'll be right over! LOL

In a totally unrelated topic, Judy, have you read the July Smithsonian yet? The article on Corn really annoyed me and I was curious if it struck you the same way.
Mom keeps saying she would love a gardenia bush but they die on her. Much to her chagrin the neighbors have about five growing wild behind their fence in the easement.
They are fragrant. My wedding bouquet was made up of five gardenias and apricot and yellow baby roses and rosebuds.
When I first started teaching first grade here, I had some little children who did not always come to school having had a bath. One of the children brought me a gardenia one day. I pinned it on my dress so that when overcome by odor, I could just bend my head down and have that lovely fragrance.
By the way, Dillard's has a wonderful gardenia potpourri which lasts and lasts.
I love gardenias! My Mom used to grow these and the fragrance was almost intoxicating!
Those are so pretty. I'm sniffing really hard and trying to smell them through the computer screen. :)
The rain has knocked my corn stalks over, among other things! All these torrential rains make me feel like the end of the world is coming!
PS Your place looks like Hollywood and I can practically smell the gardenias!

Lovely flowers! And the pool looks nice, too... more reasons why I like North Carolina more and more. I had considered it for retirement, but since I'm looking for a job, its on my short list.
