I hope you can see this photo of Europe at night. This should dispel the rumors of the "Flat Earth Society"!

I've seen the one from this side of the ocean but not Europe. Trying to pinpoint Vienna, but it looks like there are not so many lights there.

Heard you were feeling under the weather. Mom said she always came down with a cold that lasted most of the winter while she still taught first grade. Hope you'll soon be feeling better.

These are spectacular!

Glad I got here first before anyone else used up that word, lol!

BTW, I have linked you Kenju, if that's ok :)

I've long been a fan of pictures of and from outer space for all the reasons you cite in your once-again excellent entry. Still, this never ceases to amaze. I find myself somewhat breathless every time I see a new image like this. It makes me feel small, and very humble.

Hadn't seen the earth-at-night photo before. What a revelation.

Judy, never underestimate the ability of people to believe what they want to. Evidence is just inconvienient.

Bull on that. If the earth were round, then how come flat panel TV is so much more popular than round panel TV? Huh?

Wow--Am I crazy or is Spain outlined by the electrical lighting they're using?? Beautiful photo. I still believe the world is flat, though. At least where I'm standing it is. ;)

It's funny you should mention artists in association with these pictures from space. I was surprised to learn a little while ago that the colours one sees in space photos are actually the work of photoshop and other retouching processes; telescopes like the Hubble don't actually take pictures in colour like this.

However, I think adding colour helps bring out the wonder and amazement that the universe rightly deserves.

If interested, you can read about the debate over the colour of the universe here.

Also, I believe that the Earth is actually waffle-shapped, with little indentations for cosmic syrup :)
