Collections: Ephemera ~ Paper Fans

Top Left: A very handsome young boy and a cute terrier dog are used to advertise "Dr. Thatcher's Mixture" for "Diarrhoea [sic] Due to Dietary Indiscretions", by the Thatcher Medicine Co. in Chattanooga, Tenn. There is no mention of the artist, unfortunately.

Bottom: A charming girl with a red ball and her chubby brother, holding a cocker spaniel, are advertising Hobby's Grocery and Market in Cary, N.C. Note the Phone number: 21. That had to be in the 1940's or before. This fan is not signed by the artist either.

My in-laws used to have this neat wallpaper in their house. It included graphics of all sorts of old advertisements. It was kitschy in its own way, but I always ended up reading the walls.

It took me back to an era I had never experienced first-hand. This entry does the same. Thanks!

Visiting from Michele's tonight. As nice as she is, I'd be here on my own, too.

Anazing!!! I love that you posted these fans, Particularly the first one, the day after Thanksgiving...given that we all overindulged! (lol) BEAUTIFUL Fans....!

This world is truly small, isn;t it? On the LIRR..the stops, coming out of Manhatten, after a certain point are: Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Great Neck, Manhasset, and last on that line, Port Washington!
I'd like to have a dollor for every time I have taken that train and gone through Bayside....LOL!

I think these are old church revival fans. People do collect them. I've seen them in auctions.

How wonderful that you keep these memories of times past. The fans are fascinating and I love the card from the 50's.

How many fans do you have? These are really nice, have you considered taking them to the Antique Road Show when it comes near where you are? Would love to hear what they would say about them.

I was thinking about asking the very same question: how many fans? they are just lovely. You are the first I know with that hobby! Do you know other fan collectionists?

I guess after all the eating we've done these past coupld of days, that Dr. Thatcher's Mixture may come in handy.
We are still at my in-laws and will make the trip home on Sunday. Then it's time to eat normally again.
