Moonflowers and Roses

The moonflower vines grew on the pump house last summer. The blooms were often 9-10" across; looked like dinner plates and the aroma was intoxicating. The roses were at their best in May, and now there are only a few blooms on the trellis. If we get good rain in the next several weeks, the roses may perform again this summer, but the beetles finally arrived, so the foliage looks like lace again. I guess you suppose that a florist has a beautiful garden, but in this case - you would be wrong. Our soil is very poor and I have never had the patience to amend it. I plant in pots - or not at all. This year, due to an early heat wave, no pots were planted, so I have no flowers except the roses and a gardenia bush with rapidly browning blossoms. It is depressing. The current heat wave is making everything more difficult.

I know how you feel... only our problem was just the opposite. We had unusual cold snaps all the way through June, so I didn't plant anything either. No fresh from the garden veggies this yr. :(

Thanks for visiting!

I too love seeing and enjoying a beautiful garden of colorful plants and flowers. I wish the heat wasn't ruining yours.

I know what you mean. In Florida this time of year, all my annuals just kinda shrivel up and die. It's just too hot.

Michele sent me...this time!

Your roses are gorgeous. We've have switched back and forth between too much rain and too much sun. The only thing thriving in my yard is the weeds.

They are beautiful. It seems we are losing two of our plants(jasmine and hibiscus) I hope they recover.

Your flowers are lovely. We need rain so bad. It has only rained three times the entire month of June :-/

I'm glad to hear that this is a heat wave in North Carolina. I was afraid someone would complain of a chill!

My doggie has taken to sitting on the air conditioning louvers.

The gardens around my house are blooming, and I did it all myself. Or maybe I watched my wife do it all herself. Funny, I can't remember...

Our moon flowers are just starting at the cottage- I love them. And I know what you mean about the potted plants biting the dust this year- if the hanging baskets don't get watered everyday they look terrible and I've sort of given up this early in the season because of the heat.

pretty!
oh......it is making me miss being home and being in my yard.

I planted a gardenia in Arizona, and the blossoms turned to brown, ugh. The nursery man told me it was too much watering, though?
Strange, but he says they need very little water.??
