WalMart today and I always look at kitchen gadgets and implements, hoping to find something I can't live without that will make daily life easier.
I saw some attractive bowls, and the advertising said it was a new Rachel Ray creation - a "garbage" bowl to sit on the counter top while you are chopping veggies, to hold the unwanted parts. Understand? A bowl to hold the discarded parts of your veggies, so that "you won't have to make so many trips to the trash can."
Whaaaaaat? You need a special bowl for that??? One that costs $19.95 at WalMart and probably more at other stores? I don't care how pretty it is, or that it has a non-slip base........can't you use just any old bowl? Or do what I do and drop them into the sink with the garbage disposal? Or move the trash can closer to the sink/counter where you chop???
Somebody please explain this?? 'Cause I sure don't get it. I searched for an image of the bowls so I could show you....and I came up with this. Check it out.

It is beyond my understanding! As you said, there are so many other things one could use---right there in your kitchen, already!!! There are better things to spend that $20. on, like more food....lol!
Thanks for the help with the flowers.....do you have any idea what the second picture is----the petals are white?? Is that a Pansy, too?
Here in the UK all unwanted food goes into a special container anyway which is collected every week as part of our recycling programme, as well as the usual cardboard etc. So anything like peelings etc. are just put straight into that and then transferred into another container that lives in the garage.
You can get fined here for not disposing of all food that way.
I usually peel over newspaper. Why dirty a bowl?
preposterous
Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,. We keep empty coffee containers or ice cream containers and put the peelings, etc. in them. We call it the "chicken bucket" and when full, carry the left overs out to the chickens. I hope they are not offended that we don't serve them from a lovely Rachel Ray bowl. Ha, ha,ha,ha.ha.
Send the $20 to the food bank.
I have seen Rachel use one but your are right, any bleeping bowl would work. Sadly, lots of people will buy that and they live among us.
$20 for a garbage bowl? I have a bridge in Brooklyn I don't need any more if you know someone who might be interested. . . .
I've never heard of Rachel Ray & agree with everything you wrote Judy but it's said that even a bad critique puts the product name out there and will help with sales. I was going to write a nasty blog about that awful English speaking lady who talks about BUMS but didn't do it ... didn't want to give Cottonelle the publicity.
What's wrong with a bit of newspaper? We keep all our vegetable peelings and bits for our compost bin in the back garden, anyway. (I don't think we are fined for doing that LL Cool Joe!)
Some people must have money to burn!
That's very funny. A garbage bowl. I just put the trash container next to the counter and toss the discarded stuff in there. I've obviously been doing it wrong. LOL!
