A Costly Senior Moment....

One of the people I work for took most of her employees out to dinner last night, to the Cheesecake Factory. It was a large group; we ate like kings and enjoyed ourselves. Some of us wanted drinks and I ordered my usual margarita. It was delicious, but.....

The wait person brought around checks for those who had ordered alcohol; mine was $10.67  (inc. tip), so I put a $20 bill in the folder and when she asked if I wanted change....I answered yes, rather emphatically. And then.....

And then?  I forgot about my change and left before she returned to the table. It was a good margarita, but it wasn't worth $20. I cannot believe I did that. It didn't hit my brain until I was pulling into the garage that I had left money 'on the table', so to speak.

My friend Pam and I split an appetizer. It was asparagus, tomatoes and pine nuts grilled with olive oil, topped with a sunny-side up egg. It was delicious! My entree was lemon-garlic shrimp with angel hair pasta and it was excellent. I finished off the meal with carrot cake, since I prefer that to cheesecake.

It was a very nice meal and I was with some fun people - but $20 for one drink?  No way.....never again.

(They say confession is good for the soul, but I don't feel any better for having told you.....LOL)

Wow you did well to eat all that! I love the Cheesecake Factory but all I can ever eat is the appetiser and that's it. And I struggle with that!

Yep, that's a lot for one drink I agree, and it would piss me off too!

I heard someone say that servers in restaurants rely totally on the tips they receive as their wages are so low, so think of it that way, it may help a bit!

Oh Judy, a definitely Senior Moment! Hopefully that delicious food made up for it. But I am wondering how you managed to split an egg between you and your friend??

I know it isn't funny, but....in a way, it is---Especially since she asked you did you want change.....lol!
These Senior Moments can really get you in the Pocketbook....!! But it sounds like you had a good evening, outside of the $20 Drink!

...But the words you chose to share with us are priceless.

We've all been there, some of us more often than we'd rather admit!

Bet that was a top shelf Margarita. Oh I love those.

We ate with a reunion group in California. There were six of us at the table (3 couples) and the menu stated gratuity would be included for groups of six or more. However, we were paying separate checks per couple. I added a 20% tip and the waitress left. Then I noticed the tip had already been added so I called her back. Yes, it had been added to each of the three checks because there were six of us at the table. The others had not noticed either and the waitress sure wasn't going to say anything. The restaurant only added 15% and we had each added 20%. We just took our tips off. Live and learn.

I'll try to remember this story the next time we go out to eat!

At least Judy - you won't make that mistake again.

Thank Judy. You've made me realize how much money I've saved since giving up alcohol 25 years ago !!

Oh that is so frustrating. I don't suppose there's anyone who likes losing money or getting distracted.

Made me think that I nearly left my card in the very same card machine yesterday which I left it in 2 years ago. I don't ever leave my card in card machines, except for on those two occasions. I'm now wondering what it is about that particular machine!
