Ranting (but Quietly)

Risking the chance that I may make some enemies, this post is directed more toward Facebook than bloggers. But this venue is better for longer statements, so I am writing it here and posting a link there.

I was raised in a Methodist church and I consider myself a Christian, even though I don't go to church on a regular basis. I have attended often for 7 out of the last 10 years, but not now. I affirm our Lord and his Son as my Savior - but I do not feel the need to tell people that every day of my life. Showing by example is far more important than talking about it. I may fall short in that, but I try.

I love my husband, my son and my two daughters and all my grandchildren, cousins, etc.  and if I had a brother or sister I am sure I would love them too.

I hate cancer and all other insidious diseases, even those that are invisible, such as chronic fatigue syndrome and Lupus.

I love animals and I do what I can to nurture, rescue, feed, shelter and love some.

My parents and grandparents are in Heaven (presumably) and I miss them every day.

SO, people, I would be pleased if you would quit posting on Facebook and asking me to

click "like" or "share"    IF:

I love Jesus.  (I don't honk at the bumper stickers, either.)
If I have someone in Heaven whom I love.
If I know someone with cancer or an invisible disease.
If I love animals.

Often, the requests say to click like within a few seconds.

Please tell me how that can help anyone or anything???  Do you know anyone who admits to hating animals, loving cancer, not minding that a loved one is dead? I don't. I do know people who don't care a whit about Jesus, but they have their own religions and I am not bothered about that. But I often feel a bit guilty if I don't immediately click 'like', so I'd be much obliged if you would refrain from posting such stuff. You can ask for prayers - I am happy to do that - and it might do some good. I am fairly sure that clicking "like" has no effect.

Somehow I don't think it is a good thing to "like" anything on FB. Kind of like when emails ask you to send prayers and such to at least 10 people. It is just a way of fishing addresses. Not sure what "like" does but I wouldn't trust it. Can you tell I don't like FB?

What you said, exactly.

I agree with you. I don't need or want to be preached at, especially on Facebook, which I don't like much, anyway. I even try to stay away from politics on Facebook, believe it or not. I just like to keep up with old friends I never get to see any more.

I'm with Patti on this one....I am not a Facebook person and it's all the things you mentioned and more....! I'm sticking with the blogs---It seems to me most people are very respectful of others in ways that both Facebook and Twitter seem not always to be...

I am drifting away from Facebook. What you have just stated is one of the reasons. Superstition it prevalent in those kind of posts. Also personal agendas don't speak to me. Nobody is going to change their religion or politics because of a Facebook status.

Good post !! I feel the same way about those emails that drip with sentimental goo and then tell you to "forward to 5 other people", and you'll get ... blah, blah, blah.

Great Post....I feel the same way and am very tempted to unfriend about half the people on my facebook. I only signed up to be able to keep up with my daughters and their adventures. I absolutely hate the politics that some people feel the need to push.o

And this is why I don't have Facebook.

Amen! I am no longer on fb and I got really tired of those stupid things too :)

Those FB posts you mention are the modern equivalent of chain letters, and play on some people's insecurities. The back of the fire is the place for them.
