I hate to admit it, but the top photo is my grandmother on the farm where she grew up. She could be a poster child for grumpy women (at least in this one) but in life, she was a warm, loving and always smiling person.
The next one is my mom leaning up against the tree. She wasn't a "tree-hugger" that I knew of....LOL. This is such a "spotty" photo, it is almost a primer of how not to do it, right? The flapper dresses could be pretty, but the print on this one should have been a no-no, especially for a big woman.
Last, you see my Girl Scout troop in 1950 or 51. I know it will not be easy to see, since the newsprint has bled a little. Darn those "magnetic" photo albums of the 60's! I am seated next to the table; second from the left.
Click to "embiggen", as Carmi would say!

Interesting old photos. I admire your spunk and determination to sort out and label all these photos.
I especially like the ones of the children like the 3 little boys on the front porch from Tuesday. They look as if they are raring to go have a fun time running and playing once the photographer is finished.
You look extremely cheerful in that picture, Judy. How sure are you that your aunt is 16 in that picture? She looks like she's around 30! And you're right--that fellow on the right looks a wee bit too interested in the other guy! LOL
I'm loving these pictures. I have a soft spot for familial, historic "artifacts", and am - as you know - the curator of my own family musueum collection. Brilliant stuff here!
Your grandmother looks like she's posing for a statue that will be erected in the Luxembourg Garden. They have room for more statues.
I love the white horses. She looks allegorical between them.
Wow Judy...I love all the pics. I am big fan of old photos. I enjoy looking at them. What a neat thing for you to share!
I think that in our grandmother's time, it was not fashionable to smile at the camera ;)
My grandmother always looked like she was sulking at best, or angry at worst.
Back in the day, the lense of the camera had to open for a long time to take the picture, so it was alot easier to be straight faced ..and took a better photo then trying to hold a smile so long.
I love all the pics u post and the stories behind them. Very entertaining!!
These pictures give a priceless view into the past. Those guys look like they each only have one leg too!
I love all of these! What treasures you have!
Kenju, I have always liked the photos and memorabilias and such, but I miss your descriptive writing. But What do I know? I'm just Josh Mueslix, an old friend with a new name. Go check out my blogspot or I'll kick you in the reproductive organs.
Hi Judy Great photos of days gone by.
I passed on your message to Peter and I see some are having trouble commenting on my site. Makes you wonder why.
Take care, Love, Merle.
What wonderful old photographs. I really love how they give an insight into how those people lived - the clothes they wore, the cars they drove etc.
I was a girl guide (as we call them over here) too!
The "glad-eye"?...LOL
Hadn't heard that one before but thanks for a good laugh. I agree...there does seem to be something a foot there doesn't it?
You are quite the looker there in your girl scout picture. Think I might have asked you to go to the Saturday Matinee and watch a good old Hopalong Cassidy movie if I had been around.
Again...love these old photos.
I have a ton of photos in those "magnetic" binders. I've taken to removing the plastic cover and scanning them in as one and then cropping each photo out. The ones I tried to remove were all left with horizontal lines like you are looking at an old television. I love seeing these old photos!
I love the word "embiggen." lol
Great photos, Judy!
