As of Tomorrow....

It won't matter at all, but at the moment, I am frustrated.

A friend asked me to help distribute political signs to some precincts in the areas near my home, and I agreed to do it, even though (as I told her) no political sign in the street, road or polling place ever made anyone decide for whom to vote. Plus, the signs are unsightly and in my opinion, they should be outlawed. But I wanted to help, and so I said yes.

I called the person who was responsible for passing out the signs this morning and gave him the names/numbers of six precincts where I would be willing to put signs, and he said that was good. I promised to be there by 1pm.

Arriving at 1:05pm (after having a little trouble locating his office), he couldn't find those signs. When he checked a list, he discovered that the precinct signs I had signed up for had already been picked up by someone else - before I called  that morning.

Wouldn't you suppose that he would have checked the numbers while I was on the phone and let me know not to bother coming??? I guess that would have been too easy.

He did save me a lot of miles on the car and at the cost of gas, I should be happy about that, but I am frustrated. When people volunteer to do something for the good of someone or some group, their time should be used wisely. Mine wasn't and I am not pleased.

I think it was good of you to volunteer, and I agree with you signs don't persuade anyone.

Yeah that is frustrating and seems to be happening more and more nowadays. People don't value other people's time at all.

Apparently , someone has risen to the level of his incompetence!

Consider yourself blessed. No telling what kind of trouble you could have gotten into distributing signs in the heat of the
day-before-elections. I agree about signs not doing a lot of good to decide votes.

I don't blame you Judy....It really makes one not want to volunteer to do anything...! But, your Heart was in the right place, my dear....I know that doesn't help the frustration of time-wasted!

Hi grandma! I do understand your frustration, but I know from working closely with the campaign that everything gets increasingly more hectic the closer it gets to election day, so since it's the day before, disorganization is inevitable. Don't take this accident personally and the fact that someone else was so anxious to help out and took your signs in the midst of chaos should comfort you! A surplus of volunteers is far more desirable than none at all. Either way, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I'm thinking about you and can't wait to see you soon.

Lots of love,
Emily

I agree with Star. The "Peter Principal" in action. Sorry you were victim.
All signs do is promote name recognition and give the sign makers an economic boost. Guess that has to count for something.
Thank goodness we can put that all behind us today. It will again be safe to go to the mail box and answer our phones. Ahhhhhhhh.

I get irritated when one is asked to leave clothes etc outside in a special bag and they don't collect it- again and again. Today is their last chance
