While in a hotel restaurant, eating breakfast this morning, I watched as a beautiful older (probably 80+) woman entered with her escort, a younger woman. The older woman had gorgeous white hair, coiffed in a modern style and very suitable to her face shape. Her teeth had been capped or whitened. She wore a fashionable black knit pants-suit with white trim, and three inch wedge heels in an allover black and white print, and carried a big white hobo purse. She wore multi-strand pearls on her throat and wrist, and was, in general, dressed to the nines - as we say. It was 7:00 am. Her companion (about 45) was in a beige t-shirt and khaki shorts, with sneakers.
Guess which one I want to be when I grow up?

Me too, Judy, lovely.
Ha ha. I love to see anyone of any age really making an effort in what they wear. Although I wear casual I really try to coordinate everything and make it look good.
Good for her she sounds great!
Love this. Isn't it a shame younger people don't "dress-up" more.
I think you just described me and my Mom. :) She's always dressed up/coordinated, and I'm lucky if my shirt doesn't have stains.
I used to be dressed up a lot but I'm turning into a slob. I'm thinking of going back to work and that will help my look as well as my pocketbook.
I'm guessing you want to be the elderly woman's escort. You get to be 45 again!
=p

Shall we be twins, Judy? I do try to co ordinate my colours even if they are a little more casual these days.
I'll be the one in the t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. I'll take comfort over style any day...
That was laugh out loud when you got to the youngster. I have comfy as a style I fear.
I remember going with my Mom once when she was about 82 to buy her a new dress.
I kept picking out what I thought were nice conservative dresses
and she rejected one after another of them saying," That's an old lady dress. I don't want that. That's not what I'm looking for."
She ended up with a denim pants suit and, I have to admit, she looked pretty cute.
I was waiting for you to say hello, Judy (Ha, ha...I wish !)
Yes, the younger generation are all going to hell in a handbasket...
Amen! Have you seen this blog:

It's full of fabulously dressed women who are "advanced". I'm taking notes!
I'm with Thumper...Comfort is my middle name. I like to dress up now and again though these days, less and less as my physical problems have overtaken me---And, no one would see me all dressed up anyway...So, I opt for comfort, please....!
An 80+ year old woman was wearing 3" wedge heels? I know I would fall flat on my bum if I tried that and all of my contemporaries wear flats.
She must be a wonder woman, or a former model. Personally, I think she is nuts unless her sense of balance is better than anyone of that age that I know.
I never would have imagined you aspired to wearing khaki shorts, a tee shirt and sneakers when you went to Sunday breakfast -- but to each his own. ;-)
Comfort is most important to me and if I can dress to the nines and be comfortable, fine, otherwise I prefer something more casual -- no shorts and a tee shirt for me now, though.
I might add, I dislike those wedge heels and some of the other ridiculous "klomper" styles on any age. I don't think they're flattering for any woman -- but, to repeat, to each his own.
Frankly, they are a danger for any age group, but certainly older women. So were my spike heels years ago, running up and down stairs, sometimes in darkness at the TV station, come to think of it. For a time I allowed style to supersede my better judgment -- Ah, youth! I survived.
Judy, you and my sister want to be the dressed-to-the-nines gal. I want to be the one in khakis.
Yesterday at my Red Lobster birthday celebration guess who got the better treatment from the waitress? My DTTN sister and bil of course.
We all judge a book by the covers. (Ron and I look like farmers but we are lovers:) There are times we can be elegant.
Anyone who wears over 3 inch heels aged over 80 is living dangerously.
I wouldn't want to risk another broken leg.
