1. There are at least two words that ought to be banned from use on Pinterest (and blogs too, for that matter):
  a. cute  (unless it is a photo of a baby, a puppy or a kitten.)
  b. awesome   (I think this word ought to be banned...period. If you use it, you have a poor vocabulary, in my opinion.
 c. f*ck......I don't see the necessity for it in writing (see 'poor vocabulary' above.)

2. Why do girls think hair-dos that make them appear as though they just crawled out of bed is good to have for a wedding? Not my daughter, thank Heaven, but some I see on Pinterest. It seems the sloppier it is,  the better they like it. I don't understand it.

3. Why do some people take everything I say in the wrong spirit? There are two people in my life who do this with me. Nothing I say is accepted in the manner in which it was meant. The fact that these two people are among the ones I love the most makes it more hurtful. Since I approach these two with the same attitude as I do others, it is a puzzle to me. Can you shed any light?

No light to be shed here. I finally cut a friend loose because she always makes me feel bad about myself. We communicate from time to time by email, but I've dodged getting together. (There's a family connection, so I have resisted having a frank conversation.) :)

I say "awesome" all the time - I kind of mean it tongue in cheek, because I am not of the generation that came up with that one, but it's pretty descriptive.

I'm with you on the F word.

Apparently I have a poor vocabulary...

The people that take everything you say in the wrong spirit are the ones with the problem, not you. My mother is like this and I find it very depressing. She never makes me feel good and however hard I try it's never good enough. It's taken me years to realise the problem is with her and not me.

Judy--You wound me to the core since I just posted a title to my blog that includes "Awesome". I admit to a poor vocabulary. *sigh* In my defense, I really did mean "inspiring awe".

(Not to worry, I'm taking you in the spirit in which you meant your "rant". *smiling*)

Worse than awesome? Amazing. "This restaurant serves food that is amazing." Does that mean it's different than the usual ways of preparation? Amazingly awful? What happened to tasty, delicious, luscious, et al?

I try to limit my Pinterest viewing to adults of an age who have vocabularies.

I somewhat agree with you on these words, and their overuse...It's like "cool" which means so very many things and is overused, too....
As to the "F" word.....Sometimes there just isn't another word that satisfy's..but, I try not to use it too much on my blog or in comments, though it does slip out now and again.

As to your dilemma about the two people who take what you say the wrong way...I haven't a clue, my dear. I wish I did.

Judy---I thank you with all my heart for your kind and caring words about my brother....These are very hard times, I'm sorry to say.....Sometimes life is just too too hard.

How about WTF? Can is use that? I LOVE that expression. LOL! Giggle, giggle. Sorry!

That would be very perplexing for somebody that knows you so well to take things you say the wrong way. I would have to be like "Get a clue!" or, "WTF is wrong with you?"

Sigh. Sorry again. I am so bad.

How about "Lighten up?" Remember that expression? Talk about overuse. Sheesh!

I totally agree with 1 - all three! I don't like cute much even for babies, etc.

As for 2 - goodness knows what girls think about their hair - its a total mystery to me. I want to get hold of a hair brush and give it a good brush! And another thing, why do young men wear their trousers so that most of their buttocks are hanging out, showing all their underpants??????? (I had to use the technical term, as I feel sure that US and UK usage for this particular part of one's anatomy is very different!!)

And as for 3 - well, join the club! I think maybe that people who know you well are looking for a sub-text, whereas ordinary people just take you at your word.

But, as they say up here - there's nowt so queer as folk!

I keep hearing about Pinterest... must check it out so I am not uninformed.

Well, Judy, since I have no idea what Pinterest is (and don't want to know after reading what you've written!) I have no comment.
Hang in there ...

Gilly--It is worse when guys are wearing no underwear to show! I was appalled to see a minddle-aged man, the other day, who was lounging next to the cash register with his dungarees hanging half mast. I didn't really care to see his skinny cheeks! (Actually, his pant waist was below his buttocks.) *still cringing*

I tend to agree with others I've read elsewhere and heard young erudite tech-savvy adults discuss on TV -- that written emails, words on the Internet -- especially on emotionally laden or opinion-laden topics -- can carry a crisp harder edge to them, than their writer might have intended, so the tone and meaning can be misinterpreted. If those "others" also happen to be family where even unrelated long-standing dynamics exist, all bets are off as to how the words will be received and/or interpreted.

Judy, have not posted in a long time. With temperatures around 115 on the computer more.
I sure agree with you on these words and also - some people I need to just stay away from :)
