Is Your Toilet Roll Naked?

Are you letting the new Cottonelle commercial make you think you need a cover for your toilet roll?  Are you wondering if you "disrespect your roll" if it is naked?

This is a blatant example of advertising attempting to create a need where none exists.

Many years ago (at least I hope no one does this any longer), some people covered their extra roll of toilet paper with crocheted covers, often in the form of dolls with wide skirts. To my mind, they were as tacky as anything ever could be. After those fell out of favor, I remember brass covers with jeweled tops. Both sat on the back of the toilet bowl, in readiness.

Are you falling prey to the new covers? I have not seen them in shops yet - only on TV - so I don't know what material they are made of. But, I ask you, does it really matter if our extra rolls of toilet tissue are covered or not? We all know what they are for - so why try to hide or disguise them? Why provide another dust/germ catcher in bathrooms that are already germ havens?

This is just another attempt to get you to spend money for something you don't really need. Are you heeding that clarion call? Or will you thumb your nose in their faces, as I am?

I have seen it and it really annoyed me. Ranks right up there with the bear with tp on its fanny. It's just toilet paper for goodness sakes.

You'd never see those in our house!! They look awful. Spare loo rolls sit nicely inside the cupboard away from eyesight. ;)

Those are some of the dumbest commercials for an equally stupid product. I keep extra rolls under the sink...not sure why something that winds up covered in poop need to be respected...

Have you ever seen a tackier-looking product? Do you think anyone is falling for it? I'd hate to know anyone who bought one, I really would.

Nope, not us.
And nope, never owned one of the cutesy ones way back when.
Celia - I hate the bear ad!
Thanks to recording most of the shows I watch, I hardly ever see commercials. I had to check out your link just to see what it was.

We don't have that ad here in the UK but I hear ya JUdy! The one we have here that annoys me is the \hands free soap dispenser' apparently designed to stop people spreading germs. But hang on a minute, aren't they going to wash their hands after they have dispensed the soap anyway? So where is the problem?! Totally unnecessary gadget.

Judy--I must admit that I probably missed the whole point of the ads. I never once thought that anyone might actually be trying to sell me something to put the toilet tissue inside - only trying to sell me more toilet tissue of a given brand.
On a daily basis, I keep no fewer than three and no more than 15 spare JUMBO rolls of TP in a hallway closet - on shelves that are only five inches deep in the closet that houses the upright vacuum cleaner. Husband keeps a spare roll atop the tank in his, the "men's bathroom" (yes, I segregate our bathrooms!), at all times. In addition, Each bathroom has two spare rolls in the bottom drawer of the cabinet next to the toilet - easily reached by most of us while sitting.
When (as now) we have guests, I watch the level of tissue on the women's room roller and put a spare roll on the tank when more than 1/2 of the roll has been used.
I can't be bothered with covering up a roll of toilet tissue or with covering a box of facial tissues!

It had me shaking my head also and I thought the same thing as you. My extra rolls are actually out of the closet, proud to be seen and always handy.

I keep the extra toilet paper under the bathroom seat, out of sight (but within reach) of the occupant.

I have a roll cover, but, it is a mouse . Other than that it would be naked. You know I cannot resist a mouse. I am surprised you don't have a frog cover!

I so agree with you...There is no need for these---I think they are stupid! I wouldn't waste a dime on a cover for a roll of Toilet Paper. Haven't these people better things to do with their time and energy??

That says it all. End of story.

I can never express how proud I am of my abundance of toilet paper. There was a time in my life when purchasing toilet paper was very costly to our household and we would ofter run out before payday/grocery day. Now I display the extra rolls in both bathrooms on decorative stands in all their nakedness and it makes me very happy to see them there. Never would I dream of hiding the toilet paper.

I don't have TV, so can only guess what you are talking about. Who wants to play 'hunt the roll' when a guest in in someone's house? I leave a spare on a stand with extra soap, tissues etc,.

There is absolutely no need for these!! my friend keeps a spare roll on the tank with a short fake daisy in it, which covers the hole. It looks cute .
