Do not fail to see DreamGirls - it is fabulous! The music is terrific, the acting is superb, the costumes interesting and Jennifer Hudson (on the right) is magnificent!

Who knew? When Jennifer Hudson was a contestant on American Idol, she was considered very good, but not Idol material. Simon was mean to her (as he is to nearly everyone), but after seeing her performance in this movie, he apologized via video (on Oprah) and intimated that she would win the Academy Award. That remains to be seen, but she has won the Golden Globe.

The thing that makes it fabulous for me is finding out that Jennifer is such a good actress as well as a terrific singer. This girl will go far on Broadway (and they won't need microphones for her to be heard in the upper balconies!) She would be a wonderful addition to the cast of the The Color Purple!

I look forward to seeing this.
I'm so glad for Hudson's success. She must feel terrific to have proved Simon wrong by her talent. She showed that the results of Am. Idol are not necessarily right. Great people slip through the cracks, and it's not always the best that wins.

I think we all secretly root for Cinderella, and Jennifer Hudson's story seems to have all the hallmarks of that glass-slippered lass.

I haven't seen the movie yet, Judy, but it's on my radar. Maybe my wife and I will go on a date this weekend!

I have changed back to comment moderation, and removed the dreaded "crazy words" at least for now.

Hi, Judy. Delurking because Michele says to tell you hello :-)

How are you enjoying the cold weather? Bekah said the whole town came to a standstill when the dreaded "winter weather" was mentioned. I told her Raleigh had been that way forever!!!

I really rooted for J.H. on that Idol series! The ones I see the most talent in are always voted out however. Makes me not want to watch Idol anymore. But I am glad she made it. She's more at the top than the ones who have won, imo.

Brenda, they would do well to ask Jennifer in Beyonce's place!

I loved it too, Judy. I was all ready to dislike it because I was familiar with the musical, but they did a fantastic job.

I haven't seen the film yet but I was lucky enough to be an arts reporter back when Jennifer Holliday debuted in the stage show of Dream Girls in Boston. I still remember that great song, all these years later!

Glad tp hear you liked this folm so much Judy.
I think Jennifer Hudson is a shoe in for the Oscar, myself....but, one never knows!
It will be very interesting to watch what happens in her career....Effie is a hard part to follow....These kinds of roles and songs don't come along very often....MAYBE they could revive the Stage version of DREAMGIRLS...THAT would be very interesting.
