The Old Switcheroo

I finally did it! I changed to the new Blogger.

I am not going to change my template yet, but maybe soon I will play around with the idea. I have to confess that I am a bit leery of clicking that "change" button, not knowing what the options are until I do.

For any of you who have changed your templates? Was it horrifying? Or am I just being a ninny?

I am certainly no Luddite but anything to do with IT is scary. It never seems to do what I want it to do!

I am getting a new template soon, but I got someone else to do it. It's cheating I suppose but I look at it as utilising somone else's takent!

As long as you back up the original template so that you can simply paste it back into place if the new template doesn't work out, you'll be in good shape.

I keep my updated template backed up in a text file, just in case.

Then I can play with new ones to my heart's content without worrying.

I kept trying to convert my blog to the new one, but it said my site is too big (1300+ entries...and I'm sure the pictures don't help). I'll try again, because yours is significantly-sized (in a good way) as well, so maybe they've updated their infrastructure since I last tried.

It's time...

I am certainly no example of the beta switch as you well know...but...since Carmi has a really nice site I would back up like he said since yours is really special. I have changed my template several times and the biggest complaint is that they are narrow not full screened like yours is now... there are a few that say "stretch" on them, but I have not been tempted to change to those. You can change the colors and then preview the template and the element moving is nice too...I just don't know how to do so many things...but you are smart and far more advanced than I will ever be so you should be able to really spiff up your site....it is just time consuming! It does say the changing will not affect your elements...just the colors and maybe placement of the elements..like left to right.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Weird that it wouldn't let you comment. Good luck with the template - I'm sure you'll beat Blogger into shape.

Save your original template in notepad before you change anything. You know I want to give you a custom look. ;-)

You're a braver soul than I; I am resisting change at all costs!

Congratulations Judy...I am leery of changing anything because I hate to "rock the boat" since it's been smooth sailing for awhile. I'm still amazed that I've learned the amount that I have.!

I can't believe it! You and Carmi in the same day... defected... sigh. I have tried to avoid this and have tried to back up the blog in a word processing file but I am WAY behind on that. There is a site that has instructions how to back up the whole blog, just in case something gets tossed.

BTW-- your background used to be white and it is tan on my computer, new template after all?

How long did it take? They keep putting that little invitation on my dashboard then every week it goes away for a day then comes back. They shut down the Blogerbot picture posting a week ago and that makes me unhappy. I think that, like my cats, I am resistant to change... perhaps that is why I stayed married for 13 years instead of getting a divorce when I should have.

And now every comment I post, it takes two tries at the verification word. There must be a timer on it and if your comment is longer than ten seconds it thinks you are spam.

Template changes aren't bad, Judy, but you often have to do some fine tuning afterwards to get everything looking right. If you buy a template, on the other hand, it usually works pretty well right from the start.

No it was ok. Much less scary than the old version in fact, but I did copy the original first :o)

I am not doing anything till I absolutely have to...It is too horrific to me to have to go through all these stressful things that seem to happen to almost everyone...It's just not something I need to go through right now! OY VEY!!! (LOL) Good luck, my dear Judy.
And I LOVE my Template and do not want it to get ALL screwed up because THEY are using everyone as guinea pigs to "work out" the problems of their NEW blogger....! No way Jose.

I swaped about 800 posts across without any trouble, though I also have a backup of my old customised template just in case.

I don't really want to go back to a generic template now, so I will be new blogger with a customised template.
