A Blast from the Past

Top: Two of MY babies, circa 1974. I loved it when little girls wore dresses, didn't you? The purple one with the white collar was always one of my favorites, and in time, it was passed down to her little sister, of course. She looked just as cute in it as her big sister did.

Daddy and me on the front steps, with naked baby and omnipresent teddy bear. Circa 1946. Note the beautiful sock and sandal look. That look has not come back for women, but now and again I see some grandpas sporting it!

My dog Kippy used to "stand guard" over the car bed, when my son was a newborn. I got Kippy when I was a junior in high school. When I moved away from home after college, Kippy remained with mom and dad, since she couldn't live with me at the time. She loved coming to visit me, but whenever she saw mom and dad getting their luggage ready for the return trip, Kippy was the first one into the car and she couldn't be coaxed out, even to say goodbye. Kippy never had babies, but she showed her maternal instincts when she was near a baby. I would put the baby in his car bed, which was placed in our living room, so I could keep an eye out on him. Kippy would stand or sit beside the bed, her chin on the edge, and remain there for hours. She'd get a weary look on her face, but she took it as her duty to be on guard.

Yours truly, all decked out for a dance. This was about the same time I got Kippy....11th grade. I was standing in front of a mural in a friend's home. Shopping for that emerald green satin cocktail dress was exhausting, as I recall. I never made any shopping trip easy; I had to try on everything in the store - and then like as not - I'd buy the first one I had tried on hours before. Then, I'd start the process all over looking for shoes. Luckily, I have outgrown those bad habits.

You are going to have Hoss all hot and bothered over that last photo. My word woman! You are one beautiful creature. And I LOVE that your girls look so much like you as tykes.

I can sure tell we are from a similar time frame--by the portacrib and your gorgeous green dress. I just love looking at your kids, your dad, your dog. Are you writing your stories for your family? I've just been asked to offer a memoir class at the library and though I've worked with several authors to horse with my own, I'm consulting with other teachers who teach it to see which texts they like the best.

I have to agree with Vicki. You were one beautiful creature. I bet your father had to keep a close eye on all those young guys who were standing in line for your attention.

I love all your photos and I am so glad you are sharing them with all of us.

You are gorgeous in that jeweled tone and cute as a button in your younger picture! I remember when we HAD to wear dresses to school in public school. Nyssa had to wear them in her elementary up to junior high. I used to smock the cutest little dresses and sew them at night. They are packed away for her little girl... someday, in the very far distant future.

The first 2 photos - your oldest daughter looks just like you! Judy, I do put my girls in dresses. They love them. So do I. When Colby and Gracie were little I made all their dresses for church. I still have them. Piles of baby dresses with lace and ribbons. Maybe one day they might do the same for their daughters. Might I say you in the green -GORGEOUS!

Ditto to all the above comments about the green dress. You are indeed beautiful. I was never that thin. Yes, dresses. I have so much fun looking at clothes for little girls.

We used to have to wear the socks with the sandals until the sandles were "broke in" or they would rub sores onto your feet!

Oh, my goodness, you were an adorable kid! :) (And I agree you look great in that dress, too. The shopping was worth it - the color is perfect.)

These photos are really fun! (You know, I actually went looking to try and figure out what movie it was, in the poster the other day? No luck, though. Drat.)

Anyway, hi from Michele's!

You are lovely, the girls are adorable, the dog is just cute and I wore SunSans with sox....was the mother influence I think.

One of the many joys of being a mom is dressing our kids. I LOVED putting darling outfits on my kids. I cherish all the pics I have of them, and they appreciate that they didn't look like little orphans most of the time. :)

You look gorgeous in that last photo! You were all decked out and ready to par-tay!

How nice that you have published so many photos of your ancestors. You obviously respect your roots and love to remember the past. I have been researching my family history for about 15 years (off and on) and this Christmas I gave my sons a couple of binders that I had made for them, containing everything I know about my mother's family and my father's family. Next year I'll concentrate on their dad's family history.
