Michaelangelo's Pieta. I blurred it badly. The statue is now behind glass and elevated above the crowds. To get a shot of it, you have to hold the camera above your head, and you run the risk of flash glare off the glass. I guess a blurry photo is better than none at all.

I've always found pictures like this fascinating. I have no religious connection to any of them, yet I am drawn in by the ornateness, the richness, the stories they tell. Even though I do not worship them as hundreds of millions do, I am inspired by the fact that they are so meaningful to so many.
I don't think I'm explaining myself very well this morning. Too little sleep :) But the bottom line is I'm so glad you've taken it on yourself to post these all to your blog. They're wonderfully unique views of a place I've always wanted to visit.

Not being religious myself, I still am put in awe of the beauty bestowed in the art and workmanship of it all. I can't help but think, while u are there, u wonder if you memory card will be enough...u are afraid to no miss anything...get it on film...there is just so much beauty ...and history.
Thank you so much for sharing....I hope one day I can travel to europe and feast my own eyes on some of this myself.
the Pieta was at the '64 New York World Fair--of course, I didn't see it, but wrote about it recently in a post about a book my grandparents had gotten when they visited the fair.

Judy, I blurred a couple photos on our Venice/Florence trip, and also kept them. Blurred or no, they still hold the memories.
