Truth IS Stranger Than Fiction!

Two stories in our morning paper caught my attention; the first one was from the AP and titled:

"Okla. town in tizzy over nude photos"

Snyder, Okla. - An upright town in southern Oklahoma ran its police chief out of office Friday after nude pictures of his 300-pound wife surfaced on the web.

Tod Ozmun's wife, Doris, uploaded the pics on her own accord - something that outraged dozens of the town's 1,500 residents.

"They have no morals, as far as I am concerned," said Shirley Anderson, who served as mayor in the 1990's.

Ozmun had his share of supporters, too. Mayor Dale Moore and Councilman Clifford Barnard also resigned to show their support for the chief.

My only comment here is a chuckle. I am not sure I want to see the photos, but I'd sure like to know what her motives were....LOL

The second article was titled:

"Too-thin models can't walk the catwalk at Madrid fashion show" and "Snub meant as message to youth". Here is the first paragraph of an article written by Daniel Woolls:

"Spain's top fashion show has turned away a slew of models on grounds they are too skinny - an unprecedented swipe at body images blamed for encouraging eating disorders among young people."

To this one, I say hooray and hallelujah, and I hope it takes root and spreads out all over the fashion industry. It is long overdue. Most of us are tired of looking at fashion magazines and seeing waifs who look as though they have eaten only a lettuce leaf in the last 2 weeks. Ironically, that is the way I looked until I was 38 and quit smoking, but I can assure you I ate well during that time. When did skinniness become preferable to having a little meat on those bones? The models of the '40's, '50's and '60's had no such troubles, and they were deliciously perfect in body size and proportion. Then came Twiggy, who embodied the waif-like look so popular in England at the time, with mod-styling a la Mary Quant taking over the fashion scene. Since very few women or girls (past the age of 11) look like that naturally, what say we go back to normal-sized women in the fashion world? Something along the lines of sizes 12-16? And give us NO women who are as skinny as rails, but who, through the magic of breast implants, have size d or larger cups on a 30" rib cage. Unbelieveable.

I'd be interested to hear your take on this article.

Good morning, Judy. Looks like I'm first to comment on this post today. What a great job! Michele sent me, btw.

I can't imagine what would possess a pound women to pose for a nude picture, much less post it on the internet. She must have a great self-esteem, I guess.

As to the model thing, you are soooo right! You know who has a great body? Rachal Ray. She is healthy, proportionate and cute. Yet some would or call her fat and I bet she's a size 8 or 10. Craziness.

Have a great day!

Well I can say for sure Judy that I absolutely do not want to see the photos. So I don't have to worry about a decision on that one. LOL

As far as women and their weight, I wish I could say something humorous but I shake my head so often at women who worry about their weight that one might think I had Parkinson's disease. "Bravo" to the Madrid Fashion Show promoters and producers.

A little over a year ago I lost one of the best female friends I have had over the years because I refused to concern myself with the fact she considered herself fifteen pounds overweight. She was every attractive but was consumed with her weight. It is so sad and I do miss my friend but what can you do.

That's the fat and skinny of it. I feel the same way as you do on both counts!

I have a feeling that the images of Doris are awful. When a 300 pound lady shows some skin, you can be sure there was a LOT of skin to show.
Keep it covered, Doris!!

I'm so glad that my daughter has a healthy body image. The pressure on teens and young women today is overwhelming. Eveywhere they turn, they are faced with body standards that can only be achieved by starving yourself. The pressure to be really thin is on every woman, but I think our young girls are getting the brunt of it. I hope the models that were turned away got very depressed and went out for pizza and beer.

I agree that a "happy medium" seems like the healthiest solution for all concerned. Your 12-16 size range seems about right. It's interesting that clothing manufacturers keep making clothing larger so that women can still wear a "desirable size" though!

I agree. Time to be more responsible and not encourage this kind of false hope body image.

I agree w/Blonde Girl about Rachel Ray. She loves to cook, loves to eat. I think she looks good. I'd be considered fat in the model industry because I have a girly body, not a boy. It's hard to find jeans to fit good, since they're made with no hip room. And I hate those low-rise kind. After a good meal, I feel like my belly's floppin' over my belt buckle, LOL!

Why would she do that? I don't want to see the pictures. Why are the town folks looking at them?
^5 to the too skinny ban..
Have a wonderful day!

LOL..I read that article about the Sheriff's wife and they had pictures of her....(not nude). And frankly, I sure am not interested in her nude photo's....! I hate to admit this Judy, but I do think her posting nude pictures on the internet is an error in judgement....Does this make me old? Well, I am old! But...it just seems like she wasn't thinking about the possible fallout to her Sherrif husband...or, maybe she was...LOL! Like you, I cannot imagine what her motivation was...

I agree with you 150% on the too skinny to anorexic looking bodies with implanted nreasts that look ridiculous!!!! I say, HOORAY! Let's go back to the wonderful look of the fleshy woman...please!

Twiggy, if you look at pictures of her now...she isn't bearly as thin as these young woman are now. Have you seen pictures of Nicole Ritchie? Scary.

LOL about the first article! It makes me blink really fast. :)

I totally agree with the second one. The "perfect" body expected by society today is just way too thin and there are too many girls trying to imitate it.

say YES to meat on those bones, but 300lbs might be a bit much, plus we would have to strengthen the fashion runways

One of the most adored women of the modern? era was an ample size 14, yet all these years after her death she is still regarded as one of the most beautiful women............ Marilyn Monroe.

who says she's not HOT? like if she is eight feet tall, that might be her perfect body weight...

But what would happen if all the women in the world stopped dieting? Stopped being obsessively self-involved and hating themselves? If they stopped counting calories and carbs and points? What if they turned their attention to things that really matter? What if they started counting the lies our leaders tell or how much less women still earn than men or how many fewer young people can afford to go to college? I don't think the powers that be like that idea at all. And, what would happen to the weight loss industry if their 33 billion dollar a year market stopped buying their line and their products?

I don't think that would be allowed.
