Remember candy cigarettes?

My mom saved this case and used it to store her name labels for her sewing projects. That's a good re-purposing, isn't it? I think the box was one I had in the mid-fifties. I had forgotten about it until I needed to sew a button this week, and found it in my old sewing box.

Scroll down for another post.

Oh boy, you just dusted off some serious memories. To my little mouth those things were so damned good. Can you imagine them being able to produce something like that now. People would go crazy with protests. Times have sure changed in lots of ways, both good and bad.

While I had one in my mouth I'd blow out & you could see candy powder in the air & we use to pretend we were really smoking!

Oooooo. The chocolate ones were REALLY special, as opposed to those white, hard candy minty ones with the red ends. Remember them well, I do!

I remember lollie cigarettes, we don't use "candy" in Oz but I don't think we ever had chocolate ones.

I sure do remember them. They still make them, but they're horrid chalky things now.

I don't remember chocolate cigarrette candies, but I do remember other ones.
My brother used to love to pretend to smoke.
He'd take anything (straws, etc) and pretend to smoke.
Luckily, he was never interested in actually smoking.
None of my family smokes. I'm so glad!!

Judy - I ate soooo many candy cigarette when I was a child....that's a hot collectors item.

By the way, Stew has declared war on me for teasing him about his pink blog. Don't tell him I was here! ;) I'm hiding from him.

Oh yes, we had something like that - although not chocolate. I enjoyed getting caught up with your posts a bit - sorry I've been so absent. I guess that's what moving across the globe will do to you... =)

Wow...mom's never think to save junk like that that will later become a valuable treasure. How cool!!! And sure, I remember em.

Wow...

Great treasure there for sure. I will have to add my name to the list of those never having seen the chocolate ones. When I was a kid I use to smoke the "mint" ones from time to time but I was more a "bubble gum cigar" man myself.

I remember the cigarette bubble gum in the cardboard boxes. Never was allowed to get it and now I wonder what the manufacturers were thinking, although the public didn't really know how bad cigarettes were for their health. Dylans in NY had them in their nostalgic candy area.

Never saw the chocolate ones either. My mother would never let us get them - they were apparently a kiddie gateway drug. :P

I liked the white ones, which came in a package which looked like a cigarette pack.

I had a pack of chocolate ones, just like your picture, which welded themselves together in a hot car on the way to Wyoming one August.

I also liked the bubble gum cigars. Hey Brenda - they were pink!

I remember candy ciggies but by the time I came into the world they didn't have such fancy packaging. Just cellophane or cardboard, Judy. The box you show in your post is much fancier than anything I remember.

I loved Vanishing Acts- good read!
I was far more smitten by bubble gum cigars and although they had little labels they definitely didn't come in such nice boxes. Old sewing boxes can be real treasure chests.
