Believe it or not ~ more postcards!

From the top down: Frederick C. Frieseke, "The Garden Parasol", Jan Brueghel the Elder, "Harbor Scene with St. Paul's Departure from Caesarea", The Hallmark card, Willem can Aelst, "Vanitas Flower Piece", Jasper Cropsey, "Eagle Cliff", and Bernardo Bellotto, "View of Dresden with the Hofkirche on the Right".

If you remember my last postcard post, I mentioned that I had counted 200 in my collection (of which 3 were duplicates), but I thought I might find others. A search for something else yesterday yielded a few more. The art works are reproductions of paintings that reside in the collection of the North Carolina Museum of art. This is a great way to have a little slice of culture in your home. Few of us can afford the real thing - but post cards are an affordable alternative.

The card with the basket and poem is a reproduction card published by Hallmark in 1990, to mark their 80th year. According to the legend, "This postcard is typical of those first sold by Hallmark's founder, J.C. Hall. In keeping with his committment to quality, it has been carefully reproduced from an early 1900's postcard."
Edit: I now have all my postcards in a pretty covered box on a table in the living room. I wish I had put them out years ago; it is nice to sit and thumb through them, remembering where they were purchased.

Lovely postcards! And did you say 200??? Wow, that's quite a collection. I've always been partial to postcards, but I've never thought about collecting them, and actually that would be a really nice thing to collect. Do you write on the backs at all?

Michele sent me, it's been a while since I've been here. Hello! :-)

I love the tone. I doubt even the most adept Photoshop wizard could fake something like that...definitely an image of the ages - in every case.

I love seeing your collection. My Aunt Sophie who passed away many years ago taught herself how to paint. She would get postcards like these from The Met in NY and copy them. Now, whenever I go to a museum anywhere in the world, I'll run into one of "her" paintings. She always signed them "Sophie". There are Sophies in galleries all over the place! I even own a few. She was quite the forger.

Beautiful Postcards JUdy! Don't you think that Postcards are a comloketely underated Art Form? Especially some of the photographic drawings of places that no longer exist---as well as reproductions of great paintings. Thank you for sharing sme of your treasures.

That reminds me, the day before yesterday was Yorkshire Day.
I bet Hallmark doesn't know of this special day yet.

Hi Judy,
Catching up on your posts provided me a delightful diversion from my personal posting frustrations today. Thanks!

The incident at McDonalds is unfortunately not uncommon. 2 months ago I stopped at a light and glanced into the care next me. A nice-looking, clean-cut fellow was sitting in the driver's seat stark naked. He had one hand on the wheel. It was pretty obvious where the other hand was.

I called the police which I'm quite sure ended the fellow's joy-ride. Nothing surprises me anymore, And that's sad.

Those are great! Looks like you have a neat collection.

I came across the New York City Public Library's digital catalogue. There is some awesome material to browse through.

Nice group. I like the Hallmark card. It just seems like the verses meant more then, like people REALLY meant them.

People today don't send enough cards, they are so nice to receive. Thanks for sharing.

The flower one is like an exquisite Dutch painting. And the little house just looks so romantic.
