The Break-Up

I went to see this Monday and it didn't end the way I thought it would. Unlike The Family Stone, it isn't predictable. I enjoyed the movie, but I imagine if you are having problems in your marriage, you might not want to see it with your spouse. As a primer for how not to conduct a relationship though, it is nonpareil!

I would especially recommend it to young men who are in the process of dating. If they do the opposite of nearly everything Vince did in this movie, they'd learn a lot.

Judy Davis plays an art gallery owner who is over-the-top, to say the least. She is Jennifer's boss. Judy could get an Oscar nomination for this role, and I would have preferred to see more of her on screen. Justin Long, who played Warren Cheswick on Ed, plays Christopher, the assistant at the gallery. His long hair and under-lip whiskers in this movie take him a long way from the nerd he played on TV, and while his role is small, it is notable.

If you go see this movie with no expectations of where the story leads, you will probably enjoy it.

It doesn't sound like my kind of movie. Going to a movie with no expectations is good advice.

I was glad to read your review because I've really been on the fence about this movie. Part if me wants to see it because I ADORE Vince Vaughn, and the previews look pretty funny. However, the more I hear about it, the less I think I'd like it. I won't say anymore so I don't spoil it for anyone. :-)
Michele sent me today!

Glad you reviewed this and I like good endings so probably won't go see this. I was reminded of the movie "Fatal Attraction" when you said that every young man of dating age should see "The Break Up" and do the opposite of what the male character did. I always thought that every married man should see "Fatal Attraction", with their wives; might scare a little sense into them. ;)

I thought this was an odd of choice of movie for Jennifer Aniston to do just following her real life break up.
Maybe doing the movie was kind of like therapy for her.
Who knows?
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I will see it when it becomes availble on my pay per view.

I'll have to wait till it's on DVD...by that time I will feel like I've seen it...(LOL)
I think Judy Davis is an amazing actress....she can do anything!

You asked about my paintings, Judy...yes, I guess they would be called Non-Objective...no recognizable objects, except the Valentine Heart image...but it's what is going on in those hearts that is Non-Objctive...I will have yo show some of those sometime...Thanks for asking...

I saw this movie as well, and it truly is not a comedy...a lot to be learned by both sides.

I have been wanting to see this movie...I think I will definitely now. I think I'm glad its not a comedy...I like both of these actors and think they do well in both comedy and drama.

I'd love to see this and I hope it's available fairly soon with Netflix.
Did I miss your blog review of The Family Stone? I wanted to read that.
