SO....

here I sit, all ready to scan a few more pieces of sheet music into the computer for you - and my computer says I have NO scanner. Unbelieveable! I have tried 3 times to re-install the software and it always fails, for some odd reason. I suppose it could be related to the fact that due to some electrical problems and also lightning storms, the computer has been turned off twice, rather abruptly, in the last 2 days.

I followed the directions to the letter; unplugged the scanner first and inserted the installation CD. But it doesn't want to work for me, because parts of the installation fail every time. The troubleshooting page isn't much help either. Maybe it will self-heal in the next few days. That sometimes happens. We can hope, can't we?

You have experienced droughts, haven't you? I am not referring to a water drought (although we have that too), I mean the one where you cannot think of a single thing to write about? That has been me for the last 3 weeks; hence the photos of spring and the never-ending sheet music. Maybe my muse will come back to me soon. We can hope, can't we?

At times when I attempt to use my scanner it tells me I don't have one. Usually one of two things usually corrects the situation:(1) you already tried this: Unplug the computer and the scanner and wait at least 2 mintues before replugging them and (2), How is your scanner hooked up to your comuter? Through a USB Hub connection? What seems to happen the most (to this one) is that the connections between the two work themselves loose, so, unplug them and plug them firmly back in.

I hate pc problems. And I hope yours is corrected soon. I can no longer make cds. And haven't been able to get it fixed.

You could try to do a system restore and pick a point before the power outages. Under Windows Help and Support there is a place to click System Restore. This has helped several times with mine.

I'm in the eternal "drought" mode at the moment. Alas, I have no lovely, scan-able collections to entertain with, and so insist instead on spilling my drivel all over the internet.

Can you spell "conspiracy?" How about "resistentialism?" But I'm not mentioning any possible causes of your problems.

Deaf, dumb and blind over at my place. Plus, I hate Windows. I want my PowerBook back.

This happens more often with scanners than one might think. I follow several computer-related forums and scanner failure is a common complaint, often compounded by reinstallation being impossible, as in your case. It never seems to happen while the warranty is still in effect, unfortunately. An added annoyance is that parts and labor for a repair job willl usually cost almost as much as the scanner did originally.

It happened to me about two months ago, and after checking the forums and finding out this information, I junked it and bought a new scanner.

My scanner goes to sleep in much the same way more often than I care to admit.

I'm so tempted to trash it, but it keeps coming back from the dead.

Some days, I hate technology.

I hear you about the dearth of topics to write about. I wish my head would figure out a way to distribute ideas more equitably along the calendar. Instead, it's all feast or famine. I hate that.
