We went to my daughter's home today, to celebrate four of our grandchildren's birthdays; the oldest turned 12 at the end of March, the twins are 10 today and another granddaughter turns 8 next Sunday.
The pink dogwood, which is really more red than pink, was growing in her yard, along with 4-5 gorgeous white ones.
It seems odd to have so many family birthdays clumped together like that, but it is really nice. We can all get together to celebrate and, as the saying goes, kill 4 birds with one stone. All the children seemed pleased with their presents; one of them said this was his "best birthday ever", since he got all the presents he asked for - and then some. One of the girls got a gift of sea monkeys, which she wanted to set-up immediately, and when that was discouraged in favor of waiting until after lunch, she was more than a little ticked off. Someone always is, it seems. She was mollified by her ice cream cake, though!
All in all, it was a nice day, spent in the company of all three of my children and two spouses, and all six bio grandchildren; with excellent food and great iced tea. Considering the sobering news of last week, it was a special time, and helped me to focus on something other than myself - which is always desirable. I hope you had a special weekend too!

Sounds like you had a great day Judy! I'm glad for you. I know when I was first told about my two Chronic Diseases of the lungs I was stunned and depressed...But, so far things haven't progressed to a worse position...I'm grateful for that and I hope this will be the case for you...(That is not to say that I still don't get depressed , especially about The Bronchiectasis..)
Being with family who love you and seeing 'new life' on the trees has to lift the spirits at these times.
Those blossums are beautiful, Judy, just beaitiful, and filled with hope, as are those wonderful granchildren, I would think.
Shooot! Forgot to say Michele sent me tonight...(lol)
I love dogwoods.
Thanks for the Public Service Announcement below. I do need to quit smoking... sigh.
Happy Birthdays!
Happy birthday to all the children. It is so nice to have children around to make you happy. Seems just about everyone had a nice weekend.
March and September are our birthday months. It is good to have them lumped to gether and have one big old bday party!
Loved the dogwood picts.. I miss my dogwood trees so much! They must be in full bloom right now.
Amanda: it is a tree. I left a comment on your Flickr photo about yours. I will try to find out what that is.
My family has birthdays March 24, 27,29, Apr.1,4,8. Must be something in the air around August and September.
Glad to hear you had a good weekend Judy, I've only just caught up with your previous post, sorry to hear about that one.
Happy Birthday to all your grandchildren. I have to laugh about the sea monkeys, my daughter had them many years ago. The dogwood flowers are beautiful.
Luv the pick! It is sooo pretty!
:)
Sounds like you had a really neat day surrounded by all the grandkids. The dogwoods are gorgeous!
We're heading to New Port Richey for the day on Wed. to visit my son and his family. I can't wait to see the 4 grandkids! They grow SO fast! And of course a blog with photos will follow.
I'm glad you no longer smoke, and I hope this medical problem stays minor.
Thanks for warning other smokers.
I have never been a smoker, but I have many family members who do smoke. My parents did not smoke and neither does my brother. I'm thankful we grew up in a smoking free environment, but most of my aunts, uncles and cousins smoke.
Hi Judy! It's nice to see Dogwood private parts too. I'm glad you liked the ones I posted on Sunday. ;-)
Judy What a grand time of year to celebrate children's birthdays. They can be outside some which is where children thrive. I envy your daughter the pink dogwood. They seem to be rarer and rarer each year. I read somewhere that the pink ones are less hardy. Atlanta is ablaze with white dogwood everywhere this week and it is the time of year for the annual "Dogwood Festival"
Sending you hugs which are good for your health

PS I am curious as to who and where Michelle is and how to get to her blog?
Judy : that seems like a really joyous day. May you have many, many more.
Re emphysema - it does seem so unfair when you quit so long ago but I'm sure, if you take care of yourself, all will be well.xoxoxox
That sounds like a great day. It's so nice to see lots of family all at one time.
We have a patch of 9 birthdays in June, and we have a picnic at our house to celebrate. Lots of gifts are exchanged, and we don't even mind if the picnic has to come indoors because of weather. Although outside is better.
Cas
Take good care of yourself.
My sister has four kids, one 11 year old, two 9 year old twins and five year old. They're visiting next week. We're so excited.
And the oldest and the twins all have birthdays in early january.
Glad you had a great time with the grandkids. I hear they are quite fun to have. Maybe someday, but not too soon. I had a pink dogwood in Mississippi. It was still small and struggled quite a bit but was doing better right when we had to leave. The dogwood are blooming here but I have had some kind of sinus, cold, flu crud and haven't been out for a few days. Hope to be back in the real world soon.
