Ephemera ~ Sheet Music

This song came out in 1953, I presume at the same time as the movie "Ruby Gentry". I was too young to see this movie at that time, but Jennifer Jones was very pretty, don't you think? Part of the words are "They say, Ruby you're like a song, you don't know right from wrong, and in your eyes I see heartaches for me, but from the start, who stole my heart? Ruby, it's you."

Maybe I should rent this one.....LOL

The only other Ruby song that just popped into my head when I read this and now IT WON'T GO AWAY!!!

I believe Kenny Rogers did it.
Oh, Ruby, don't take your love to town.
Now that sounds like a movie score of today!

Kenju,
I'm not fond of movies but I love movie gossip. Did you know Jennifer Jones was married to both David Selznik (GWTW) and Norton Simon ($$$)---though not simultaneously! She's was an interesting character---my kids have a huge framed original photo portrait of her but GD knows where THAT is! (Or where it came from.)
This was fun,

PS
Jennifer is obviously wearing one of the old "Sweetheart Pointed and Padded" bras. Can't believe we wore those things. They look so...industrial.

"Ruby...you're like a dream... Ah, yes, I recall this tune.

My favorite arrangement was an instrumental featuring the haunting solo sound of a harmonica with full orchestra, strings, too, I believe. Can't recall the artist(s) now.

Had no opportunity to see movies then, so would have missed that one and probably didn't hear the music until some years later. "Ruby" remained a standard for many years.

Jennifer Jones, was she in "Duel in the Sun"? Finally saw it some years later, as had been told wouldn't be appropriate for a nice young girl like me to see -- controversial movie at the time due to moral issues. Gregory Peck was a bad guy!! :-)

That is a fasscinating piece of sheet music...I did see this film, Judy..(Of course, right? lol) and what is interesting to me about the cover of this sheet music is it doesn't even look like Jennifer Jones, who was beautiful but in a most unusual way...It's like they took a photograph of her and "doctored" it cause she was not a convential beauty of that time...also, I think it was a period piece..(I could be wrong about that) and that turtleneck(?) she is wearing makes the photograph look like it's from another movie, to me! I remember the song very well because it was a big part of the film....! I love all this music you have Judy.

I love What'd I Say by Ray Charles, and probably would have loved Jerry Lee Lewis singing it if I didn't naturally compare the two.

I think I remember Ruby.... I keep singing Ruby in my head, but I'm not sure its the one.

Didn't she attempt suicide in the 80's or something? I thought I remembered that name...if it was, she was beautiful then, too. I'm here from Michele's...loving all this ephemera!

I'm with srp. I don't know this one. I only know the Kenny Rogers' Ruby.

I have this very same piece sheet music. Mom, Granny, and Sis could all play the piano. "Ruby" was a big hit in the family as was "Misty". Jennifer Jones was once called the most beautiful woman in Hollywood. If I am not mistaken "Ruby Gentry" is about a woman who is of mixed race and is afraid to tell anyone. The last movie I saw with Jennifer Jones in it was "The Towering Inferno". Jennifer played a widow being persued by a con artist portrayed by Fred Astaire. Jennifer met an untimely death in the film when she fell from an outside scenic elevator as the building burned.

Boy, Jennifer Jones sure had a lot of VOOM VOOM, didn't she?

The women of Old Hollywood always wore those "party hat" bras. Their boobies look like cones. It must have been the "in" thing to have pointy ones.

We had a whirlwind of a weekend. The 50th anniversary for my inlaws went wonderfully. It was a lot of work, and Courtney's media presentation she made for them made everyone at the dinner party cry. There were about 125 people who attended and we had to set up and then clean up afterwards. Lots of work! But worth it.
Courtney is doing well. She had sinus surgery yesterday. She is home with a drippy, bloody nose, and popping pain pills. She's a trooper, and will be fully recovered in about ten days.
I'm busy visiting all my blog friends, and I have some catching up to do. I will have a new post at my place on Wednesday.

I'd like to hear it myself.

Oooh I love the name RUBY. This seems like a great song. I've never heard it! Thanks for dropping by my blog. I'm new to all this but am getting the hang of it. It's kinda cool!

Did I ever tell you I was named after Jennifer Jones? My mom watched a movie of hers on TV just before going into labor. Turns out, in some photographs, there is an almost eerie resemblance.

The first recording of the theme was an instrumental by a 23-year-old harmonica virtuoso named Richard Hayman. (The lyrics were added for later versions.) I also have fond memories of the movie because, in a sense, Jennifer Jones/Ruby Gentry was my first sexual experience: that night, after seeing the movie, I had my very first wet dream. Hey, I was 13 years old, cut me some slack.
