Always good advice - don't you agree? I don't think I ever saw this movie, but the music is wonderfully upbeat.

"Please don't be offended if I preach to you a while,
Tears are out of place in eyes that were meant to smile.
There's a way to make your very biggest troubles small,
Here's the happy secret of it all.

Look for the silver lining
When-e'er a cloud appears in the sky
Remember somewhere the sun is shining
and so the right thing to do
is make it shine for you.

A heart full of joy and gladness
will always banish sadness and strife
so always look for
the silver lining
and try to find the sunny side of life." Posted by Picasa

I am consistently amazed at how uplifting and wholesome the words were to the POPULAR music of the thirties and forties and how hateful, degrading and obnoxious the words and subject matter of todays popular music is. I'm probably one of those few who believe that what we listen to influences our behavior and our lives. Makes me wish the old days were back.

Hello Judy ~~ Love that old Jerome Kern song. You certainly have a treasure of music and the lyrics also.
Thanks for your visit ~ I liked the
bagpipe joke too. Not sure I would like the bagpipes themselves. Cheers, Merle.

This isn't the "original" sheet, but it is still an old one because when it was used in that film, they re-issued it for those who hadn't known the song before...This song is from 1920 and was in a Broadway Myusical called "Sally"...then it was used in the film "Till The Clouds Roll By", 1946 and once again in the film that was called, "Look For The Silver Lining", (1949)..Such an amazing history. Kern was a fabtastic composer, wasn't he?

I don't mean to be a know-it-all, Judy, but you've hit on one of the most important parts of my life...Music, which has always been a passion of mine and as a composer myself, I have a very extensive collection of Sheet Music (as do you..!) and reference books and records, etc. LOVE all this, more than I can say. It's so great to see these things on your blog..Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
