Happy Halloween ~ and Thanks!

Thanks so much to all of you who wished me a happy birthday. I had a great weekend, mostly spent in the company of my children and nine grandchildren, way too much good food and some nice presents. I appreciate that you took time out of your day to visit me and more time to leave a birthday comment. When asked how it feels to be 65 - I say - it sure beats the heck out of the alternative!

Happy Halloween!

I drew this in grammar school; probably in the 6th grade.
Is blogging it shameless of me?
Don't you love the way the hay stacks sit atop the fenceposts? I guess I hadn't learned perspective yet, huh?

Going through old boxes of photos and memorabilia is good for the soul. I found a large manila envelope full of drawings and school work from the 40's and 50's. I won't bore you with all of it, but some pieces may be interesting for a future post. Hope you get lots of candy and goodies for your trick or treating pleasure!

I shouldn't admit it, but the last time I went trick or treating was at age 20, with a few girlfriends. We went to a distant neighborhood, so we would not be recognized. One of the guys who opened the door to see the four of us said "Aren't you girls a little tall to be trick or treating?" We giggled like kindergartners, and he gave us candy anyway. The area we went to was fairly affluent; some people were giving away hot, home-made doughnuts. They were scrumptious! And we had a good share of candy apples rolled in nuts and full-sized chocolate bars; none of the miniatures for those people. I am getting hungry just thinking about it, so I had better shut up about the goodies. One thing that always stood me in good stead was that my birthday is Oct. 30th, which was our trick-or-treat night. Naturally I was not shy about telling people it was my birthday - so I always got an extra handful of candy. This year, I hope you get all of the treats and none of the tricks!
P.S. Just tell them it's your birthday!!

I told my husband that if we run out of candy we should dress up quickly and trick or treat for more! LOL

Thanks for wishing me a Happy Birthday on my mother's blog (Tan Lucy Pez). Right back atcha -- Happy Birthday!

I see from your profile that we have a couple of other things in common: I love the Beatles, jazz, world music, and Dr. Zhivago. :-)

Hey, Happy Birthday!!

And may all your dreams come true.

Happy Birthday Judy! And many more. I think the drawing is great. Prespective is way overrated. The writing is super neat.

Happy Birthday too! I hope your day was filled with candy and other wonderful things :)

Well, Happy Birthday. I think it is nice you still have those papers from school. All of mine were lost in a flood in the mid 60s.
I enjoyed your trick and treat story with your friends.

Gee, I hope that I'm cool enough to blog when I'm 65. Way to go, Judy! You're our inspiration!

Very, very nice penmanship there Judy. I hope my mom has had the good sense to get rid of my papers. I think that with all the moves we did, she must have.

Hi Judy! Happy and Lovely Birthday!
Warmly regards, Sonia.

My oldest loves to dress up and take the youngest out. As long as she is around I'll never have to go again. LOL

BTW, very nice penmanship. They do not teach that in school these days.

You have to keep things like that they become the benchmarks of your life. A belated Happy Birthday and hello from Michele!

That's what I get for not being much of a weekend blogger. I missed your birthday. :(
Happy belated birthday.
Are you sure you're 65? you write like you're not a day over 29. ;)

My word verification: fidfuxx. (I just had to share.)

Wellll, I prefer to think that the haystacks were drawn that way to give the illusion of hay in the distant fields. And of course, you were only a mere child. ;)

I'm amazed you were able to find artwork from the 40's, that must be so cool to go through. I wonder if my mom has any of my artwork from when I was a kid. I'll have to ask her.

A VERY Happy Belated Birthday, Judy!!

Happy Birthday and Happy Halloween!

What's "perspective?"

You drew better in 6th grade than I ever have or ever will.

65 is a milestone! Or is it just another number? Maybe it depends on your... perspective?

Happy Halloween to you too Judy!

I believe I was about 16 the last time I went trick or treating just for me. Things were just so incredibly different back then. Every house on the block had the porch light on and people were actually happy to see you come to their door.
I even miss taking SJ around ... she has now graduated to working on Halloween and handing out goodies from the restaurant to the little ones who stop in.

I love your drawing! And yes... perception is apparently something for big people. haha

Happy Birthday yesterday, Judy. Sorry I'm late with my congratulations.

Good idea, by the way, on going treating to a well-to-do neighborhood. We didn't have places like that where I was a kid but I sure wish we had!

Judy, thanks for stopping by today! My birthday isn't until May 14. *sigh* guess I'll just have to celebrate Halloween from now till Christmas then Christmas from Dec 25 till May. haha

By the way, are we good or what? I read right through your little typo there before you corrected yourself. Have a ball at lunch!

I'm so glad your birthday weekend was filled with family and good times.
I didn't stop by your place yesterday so my wishes to you are belated.
Hope your Halloween is SWEET!
That drawing is so cute. Those haystacks look like they are in the distance, just the look you were going for. I give you an A+. You had good penmanship too.

Those drawings are PRECIOUS! I think all sixth graders must draw alike, because I've got some like that too ;)

When I was about 10, I went trick or treating at one house a day early. The lady said, "This isn't Hallowee." And I said, "I know, but I'm hungry." This was in 1940, when it was easy to be hungry.

Love your drawing Judy! I had to stop by on this most special of holidays....Happy Halloween JUDY!

Happy Happy Day, Judy! I just turned out the porch light and I'm heading off to bed (I have to dream up about 1600 words a night for the next month) but I wanted to stop by and wish you many returns of the day once again.

Oh, what an endearing post! My heart is thumping seeing your artwork from that young. My daughters are still in their teens but I still have fridge art of theirs up and so much saved.

One just began art college! (I'm an artist but it was all her decision- no pressure.) She wanted to double major in English because she also loves writing, reading, and words like me, although we have lots of differences, too.

Happy Happy Happy Belated Birthday!
Mine this year was near a holiday but no candy for that holiday! I grinned broadly at your story of going out as 20 yr olds and the delectable food you received. Yummy!

I was not allowed to trick or treat past age 13 growing up. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I hope you had the best birthday ever!
(this is my link to my other blog which has other writings on it- i have no idea of your interests. There are categories in the sidebar at this blog.)
