How I Know the Economy is Bad

Yesterday, as I exited my car in the Post Office parking lot, I realized it has been ages and ages since I have found any money on the ground. No one is dropping change anymore and leaving it; they are picking up even the most insignificant and crusty penny.

I used to find change all the time, at least once or twice a week, in the Post Office lot and in restaurants or malls, but no more. I feel cheated. It is always a lucky day when I find change, be it a lowly penny tails up - or a shiny dime - kind of like the universe is rewarding me for some good deed unremembered. But nowadays, I am saddened by the lack of those rewards, so could I ask a favor? Next time you see a coin in the street, leave it there for me to find, please?

I have wondered the same thing, but my kids always wind up with coins that they find so I don't know what to tell you. Maybe the eyesight is waning. BTW--Michele sent me today.

I left you a quarter I saw on the street the other day. I was walking my triplets home from the park and couldn't pick it up. I knew if I stopped to do so we would NEVER get home! Here via Michele!

My kids are always finding change and are very happy about it. It's upstairs in the coin banks. Which reminds me we need some change wrappers.

Here via Michele's M&G. About the only change I come across is at the bottom of my purse, although my husband tends to find money in the washing machine (usually mine) and he keeps it!

I think we need to create a new ecconomic indicator based on the number of coins found on sidewalks. The dropped coin index could indicate the strength of people needing every coin they have.

We could copyright the indicator, call it the capejude index.

I think we've all switched to credit and debit cards. How sad: it's getting harder and harder to teach our kids the value of money when the tangible manifestation of the thing is increasingly invisible.
