In 1982, at the time of the last blood moon, I had been out playing bridge with friends and headed home around 11pm. As I exited the belt line, I started up the road that would lead me home. I was going up a slight rise, and all of a sudden I saw the biggest, reddest moon I had ever seen. It appeared to be resting on the road and it was so large that it took up all the horizon. I was scared to death. Too bad I didn't have a camera with me.
I am sure that the TV people must have announced the blood moon that day, or the weather people, but I had failed to see it and knew nothing about this phenomenon. Wondering if the world was coming to an end - for surely this huge red moon meant something dire was about to happen - I pulled into my driveway and sat for a few minutes, pondering what might befall us.
At that point, I don't remember what I did next...except for going in the house to bed. In the morning when I turned on TV and saw the reports, I felt foolish to have been scared of it.
I was very much looking forward to seeing tonight's blood moon and the eclipse. But it was not meant to be, as cloud cover made it almost impossible. I did take one photo....and immediately thereafter, the clouds came together and covered the moon completely. Several attempts to see it ensued, but proved fruitless.
Sorry you missed it. We were lucky the thick clouds we had in the morning all blew away by evening. I could actually see it between two large maple trees from my patio. No pictures though.
ReplyDeleteWell you have a really excellent one under your belt. Somehow I think we are both going to miss the next one. At ground level that is:)
ReplyDeleteI missed it last night and I missed it back when you saw it.....That had to be exciting even though it was scary, too....! Lucky you, Judy. Like Pat....I know I will miss the next one, too....lol!
ReplyDeleteI watched almost all of the change until the clouds obscured the final vies.
ReplyDeleteWas it visible everywhere? I didn't bother to look. Sigh.
