Henry Mancini is my favorite composer for movie fare. The ONLY anniversary (wedding) that was special for me was the first. We were poor, both in school, living off of loans and stipends and qualified for food stamps but didn't know it until years later. I think his parents must have given him the money, but he took me out to eat at a Red Lobster and then we saw Henry Mancini in concert with his orchestra. Dionne Warwick opened for him.
I loved all his songs and have most of his albums, yes, the real records. My favorite of favorites was the theme from the movie "The Molly Maguires".
I love Mancini's "Peter Gunn" music. We went to see him in concert in Atlanta in the late '60s. Hey, his Breakfast At Tiffany's is pretty good too. And as far as the movie, "Days of Wine and Roses" - It was good, kind of a warning to all those young married people socially drinking.
There is a place here called an 'antique mall'. Most of it is junk but there are some real treasures to be found. When I browse and see the sheet music and fans and whatnot I always think of you.
I enjoyed that movie immensely. I'll confess, the first time I saw it, I watched out of curiosity because someone told me I greatly resembled Lee Remick. Of course, I was eons younger then ... but it was rather true.
This is a superb film...One of the best films ever made about Alcoholism....Lee Remick and Jack Lemmon are bothtruly extrordinary in the film....And I always loved this song...Mancini has written some very poignant melody's in his time---this surely is one of them, isn't it Judy?
