Sunday Seven

Well, why not? If you can do Thursday Thirteen, I can start Sunday Seven, can't I? LOL

1. I just watched a movie titled "The Upside of Anger", with Joan Allen, Kevin Costner, Alicia Witt, Kerrie somebody and Evan Rachel Wood (who is from my city). It has a fairly interesting ending and for me, it was worth all the angst and anger in the movie. If you have HBO, and a few hours to spare, check it out.

2. Thanks to everyone who comments here, and especially for your caring and thoughtful messages to my post about the quandary. My friend said almost exactly what you guys advised; she will need me far more in a month than she will for the funeral. We have made plans to be together ASAP, and I feel good about the decision to go on spring break.

3. We are having a heat wave again. It was 88* today by the thermometer at my kitchen window. I would lots rather be hot than cold, but it is too early in the spring for all that heat, especially since we are in a drought as well. Let's all ask Mother Nature to back off for a while, okay? I know that you guys in TN and IN (and wherever else the tornadoes struck) would agree with that!

4. Mr. kenju's pipe club is having their annual pipe and cigar expo at the fairgrounds next weekend. They started the expo 5-6 years ago at a hotel, but they were sort of asked not to come back due to the complaints they got from guests about all the smoke. They went through 3-4 different hotels and finally ended up at the state fairgrounds. You can imagine how bad the smoke is if upwards of 200 men are smoking almost constantly, at any given time. I went to the first expo and had to leave after 30 minutes because the smoke was hanging in the air like a blue haze. The smog in LA is not that bad! The next morning, I could have drawn the outline of my lungs on my body with a magic marker; that's how badly they hurt. How much damage is that doing to all the people who go to the expo and stay there for hours? I don't even want to think about it.

5. My good friend here in Raleigh has been so busy for the last 2-3 months that we have hardly been able to get together. We swap books, go out to lunch, see movies our husbands would never attend and that has all been in short supply lately. I miss her, and now she is planning a trip to Italy for later in the spring. I am ecstatic for her - but sad that I will have so little time with her until the summer.

6. Do you play the lottery? NC just got the lotto at the end of March, and already I can see how people can get addicted to it. I have only bought one ticket so far, and I have set a limit of no more than 1 per week (or less). But oh, Lord, how I would have liked to be one of the 3 or 4 people who bought a $5 card, scratched it off, and discovered they had won $100K!
They were able to take home about $68K, after taxes. I could surely put that to good use.

7. Lastly, I sincerely hope that all of you have a good Easter weekend, whether you are Christian, Pagan, Muslim or Jewish (Do you say have a good Passover?), and that you get to spend it with people you care about. Take care and be good to yourselves.

  1. A long, long time ago, I worked at a convenience store. You would not believe the winning tickets people would throw away. They would buy the tickets, scratch furiously, then toss them in the trash. Never taking the time to look over each ticket.

I would average $25 to $50 a week looking over tossed lottery tickets... LOL!

    btw, here from Michele's!

  3. Judy,
I play the Lottery three times a week: the two days Mega Millions run and I play Fantasy 5 one time a week. Which is a total of $3 that I waste every week on wine, wild women, and gambling.
Which would be about $150 wasted yearly, but I occasionally get lucky, so it is pobably about $75 to $100 thrown away annually.
As a matter of fact, twice I have bought lotto tracking programs to keep track of what balls are more frequently played and even did better with that, but the Georgia Lottery kept changing games on me and it got to be too much work.
    Happy Easter!

  7. First, happy Easter Judy!

I almost watched that movie last night but hubby turned to something else.

We are comfy temperature wise right now. Although a little stormy at times, lol!

I threaten to buy a ticket every Wednesday, but I forget. Rest assured if I won anything, I would have a difficult time choosing how to spend it-- but spend it I would, lol!

  9. Have a great trip.
I can see how an outside meeting place would be mandatory for such a pipe and cigar event. My ex decided to take up the cigar. An absolute nasty thing, even more so than cigarettes. And not just because my ex did it. ;)

BTW....on your previous post.. I read the saying somewhere to "put ALL your eggs in one basket, then WATCH that basket."

    Take lots of Mickey pictures.

  10. My husband plays the lottery. Thinks his luck is going to change every week. I think it is akin to throwing money into the garbage. He still loves me though! Happy Easter!

  12. Happy Easter!

I would be very happy to send you the almost continual rain we are having here in the San Francisco area. I haven't seen anything like this in years.

I have gorgeous plant growing in a pot that I did not plant it in.....my husband is going out to make sure it isn't a weed. I think I'll leave it even if it is!

  13. I harbor this dream of winning the lottery. The problem is, I never remember to buy a ticket. Somehow I don't think the lottery fairy is jst going to give my money, but I suppose that's part of the dream...

Here via Michele's this morning :)

  14. I really liked Upside of Anger; saw it in the theater. My friend who went with me didn't like it as much, but I think she was too young.

The last lottery ticket I bought was in 1985; went in with someone on a ticket and won $8.00. So I'm ahead!

  15. I've bought tickets two times now. I am going to buy a few every two weeks when I get paid! If I win big Judy I am going to give you $1000.00. I mean it!

  16. Kively thoughts for an Easter Subday, Judy.
Yes, we have the Lottery here and I never buy a ticket...I use to, once in a while..but the ODDS are sooooo bad...I just gave up on the whole thing. But I sure understand people getting addicted to it. I know a few people who are...never miss a Wednesday or a Saturday...Yes, we have two drawings here...Heavens!
I hope you win, if and when you buy tickets!

  19. Happy Easter to you as well. I am investing in teh Pa. Lottery as a retirement plan (only kidding). That cigarr expo sounds lethal. I assume there are no smoking bans in NC.

  20. Hi Judy ~~ Thanks for your wishes. I am
looking forward to family times the next week or so. I hope you are enjoying your trip. Your friend will appreciate
you when all the other folk have gone.
    The "Smoke-fest" sounds terrible.Good
to get together BUT all that smoke!
I hope you are feeling well Judy.
    Cheers, Merle.

  21. Super Idea for starting "Sunday Seven." I enjoyed reading about you. I don't play the lottery but wish you fun in that regard. I do miss certain friends a LOT! In fact, my current post is "people" for a related reason.

One of the basics that first attracted me to your blog is your creativity, openness, and varitey of material.
I've missed your blog while I've hardly had time to be in blogland.
