Everytime I tell someone that I have been through the winter without getting sick......I get sick. I knocked on wood and everything, but it didn't help. My grandsons were here this weekend, and one of them got sick. His step-dad has had the flu, sinuses, full-boat as they say, and the little guy got it and has now given it to me. You know that tickle in the throat....twinges of ear pain.....burning eyes.....that signals a cold or flu coming on? I have it in spades - plus a weird sunburn from the parade yesterday. I had a hat on, but the sun got me on the left chest, neck and arm. A one-half "farmer" tan is not the best way to start the season, is it? I just used Zicam for the first time. anyone have any experience with it? A pharmacist told me that it works wonders, but the box says it is for colds - not the flu - so I don't know if it will help or not.
The painting is by Jan Steen, titled "The Sick Woman", c. 1665, Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

Is there any way to make an hour move faster than an episode of "The Sopranos"? I love that program; from the beginning music to the credits. It was so great to have it back tonight! A few surprises and a bit of a recap (which made me happy). We were momentarily surprised to see Adriana, until it was revealed that Carmela was dreaming. The ending was a shock, but I am betting it will turn out okay.......how could it not????

Oh you poor thing. I hope you are feeling better soon! I haven't watched the sopranos in forever.. i should get back on that.
ReplyDeletehere from michele's
Yep, when we say these grandkids will be the death of me, it may be more literal than we ever thought, at least according to my doctor and his nurses.
ReplyDeleteSmall price to pay for the joy that grandkids bring.
Hi Judy, you need a tonic, Brandy is a good one,
ReplyDeleteFelt exactly the same way...Turned off the phone so I could completely loose myself in The Soprano's...That WONDERFULK Tim Van Patten directed this first episiode of the season...Hooray For Them All! "Hello, Tony, Oh Hello, Tony, It's so nice to have you back where you belong...." YES!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd, BTW Judy..I am sooooo sorry that you are sick. DO Get better very very soon, my dear...
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that you are not feeling well...Hope it is a very short flu, get well soon :)
ReplyDeleteSorry you are under the weather. I'm sure you know all the home remedies of taking plenty of liquids, bla bla, bla bla.
ReplyDeleteWe taped the Sopranos (we are early to bed, early to rise),
So, Adrianan is back huh?
So, did Joey Triviano kill her in his sitcom?
Sorry you're sick. I'm still suffering the after-effects after my bout a couple of weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you are not feeling well. I watched the Sopranos last night too. I admit I am completely hooked on that show. I, too, couldn't believe how fast the hour went by.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're under the weather. Here's hoping you'll be back in the "spring" of things very soon!
ReplyDeleteLoved your parade photos...were those dogs Irish Wolfhounds? I used to own one...she was part Irish Wolfhound/part St. Bernard...and yes, she was a BIG girl...a gentle giant at 125 pounds.
Feel better soon!
I get odd sunburns myself, no matter how well-coated I think I am.
ReplyDeleteI do hope that you are already on the mend.
Judy,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say "thank you" for all your kind words at Time Goes By.
Hoping this "bout" will be shortlived.
And yes, we are Soprano fans as well! (Even though the violence still gets to me).
Kenju I'm sorry you are ill and hope you will soon recover.
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled you love 'The Sopranos' Only one of my sons shares the delight but we haven't had it for yonks.
And you are right - it is probably the only programme I watch without doing the cross-word. I sit mouth agape until the end when a great sigh emerges.
Sorry you aren't feeling well, hope you are back to feeling better soon!!
ReplyDeleteAs for "The Sopranos!" I love them!! I recorded it so I could rewatch it again!! LOL I am a Sopranoaholic....and I'm proud of it! ;)
The Adriana moment, that was shocking....but very good! Really threw you for a loop didn't it? And I agree I'm sure Tony will be just fine....he has too..LOL!
I hope you feel better soon, Judy. Most of those OTC remedies just relieve symptoms. There's little you can do against viruses with meds like that.
ReplyDeleteI got a very mild sunburn this weekend also, Judy. On Saturday while hiking. I was quite shocked that the sun in March would be strong enough to do that.
I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a single episode of The Sopranos. I'm sure I'd like it though. Maybe I'll rent it on DVD some time and watch it all at once. A Sopranos marathon.
Hi Judy ~~ Sorry to see that you are sick, and hope you are soon well again.
ReplyDeletePeter says the same about me "where would you put it?", but in my case he is quite right. I bought a wooden plaque
the other day and ave not found a spot for it. May have to move something out,to fit it in.Cheers Judy.Get well
soon. Merle.
I have had good results with zi-cam and airborne. You have to use them early on and about every 4 hours. It won't cure you, but it does shorten the length of time you will be sick. Some flu bugs are wicked, so eat some chicken soup too it won't hurt.
ReplyDeleteI haven't used the Zicam. I always get Nyquil and let it zonk me out. Fluids, in any form, juice, tea, or water. The sleep and rest is the best. NO ASPIRIN! First they admonished about children taking it during a viral illness then the age seemed to keep going up. I would just stay away from it and use Tylenol or Advil for fever. (Advil is better) No sense messing around with even the possibility of Reyes syndrome. Chicken soup actually is supposed to be pretty good, replenishes electrolytes. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are soon healthy again!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to learn that you've been sick!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Sopranos, but mainly because I "lived" it all throughout my youth and young adulthood. If you've seen their neighborhoods, you've seen the one I grew up in. Same people, different era. :)
And since you're so Sopranos-dedicated, here's a quick fix for what's ailing you ... right off the banana-boat from my childhood buddy's moms:
Lemonota (pronounced: lemon-O-tha)
Boil enough water for a couple of cups. Squeeze three or four FRESH lemons into the water trying to include some of the pulp. While it's hot, add honey to sweeten and stir well before pouring.
Yes. Basically it's hot lemonade with honey rather than sugar.
Sip on it till it cools then add more hot lemonota to the cup.
If dis don't fix ya - nuttin will. *grin*
Go with the chicken soup. It works well and remember to drink lots of liquids and simply baby yourself for a few days.
ReplyDeleteI feel that way about West Wing...but it's going off the air, and I'd probably watch the Sopranos but I don't have cable.
ReplyDeleteFeel better, Kenju!
The tradition of the farmer's tan is a time-honored one indeed. I've worn mine with pride ever since I first became a lifeguard.
ReplyDeleteAh, good times.
