For Mommas & Grandmommas Everywhere

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,
And bring so much happiness...just as they did.
I want to pay back all the joy they've provided,
Returning each deed! Oh, they'll be so excited!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll write on the walls with reds, whites and blues,
I'll bounce on the furniture while wearing my shoes.
I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out,
I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they're on the phone and just out of reach,
I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.
Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head,
And when that is done, I'll hide under the bed!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,
I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat,
I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,
And when they get angry...I'll run...if I'm able!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

I'll sit close to the TV, through the channels I'll click,
I'll cross both my eyes just to see if they stick.
I'll take off my socks and throw one away,
And play in the mud until the end of the day!
(When I'm an old lady and live with my kids)

And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,
I'll thank God in prayer
and then close my eyes,
My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,
And say with a groan,
"She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"

God Bless All Grandmas Everywhere ****I did not write this poem!!

The people above are my maternal great grandparents. This photo was taken at a family reunion at their home in WV, in about 1947. I know I have written about them before, but I cannot find the post. They were married 77 years, and died at the ages of 93 and 97, three months apart. They had six children and lived on a working farm where they grew all their food. I remember them as the kindest, sweetest people who ever lived.

  7. Got a kick out of this one. Actually, I got a kick out of scrolling back through your posts, because I haven't really been able to blog very much all week long. I had a big grin on my face reading through some of these posts!

and this commment from your other post was sooooo true: "so many of today's role models have no talent except perhaps for titillation and the ability to shock. Most of the women on the list below have great resumes of acting roles in both movies and TV. Their reputations for excellence will last long after they have exited public life."
I'm going to paste that one to an email and send it out! Very True!

Loved the Burma Shave signs too. Florida has some of those signs on it's highways as you get close to the GA/Fl border. They don't end with the Burma Shave logo,. however, so I think they stole 'em. lol

Love the poem. I often threaten my daughter that if she doesn't behave I'm going to live with her when I'm older. She simply says she'll put me in a home!

  21. Judy ~ A great post. 77 years must be near a record, especially in those days. I am glad that you got to know them so well. Some of us are not so fortunate.
Thanks for your visit and comment.
Children are smarter than we think. I used to think I knew lots more than my grandchildren,
but now they seem to know more than I do. We still have an
    advantage in general knowledge
and things experience has taught us. Have a nice weekend.

  23. Great post and poem. 77 years must
be close to a record, especially in those days. You were lucky to
know them, some of us are less
    fortunate.
I used to think that I knew more than my grandchildren, but am happy now to admit that they know
more than I do. We do still have
    the advantage of experience and
    general knowledge.!!!
    Have a nice weekend.
