Outer Space Artists at Work

Everyday I check the site Astronomy Picture of the Day and nearly every time, I get blown away by the photos taken in outer space from a satellite or from earth through powerful telescopes.

Then I think, this must be where our modern artists get their inspiration from! How beautiful and ethereal are these beclouded remnants of stars and galaxies past.

Go check it out: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.htm

You can click on Archives, and see what the outer space artists have been up to.

  5. Totally awesome. One of my favorite experiences as a Navy jet pilot (years ago!) was to fly on a clear night with the universe above and sprinkled lights of man below. I never saw anything like those pictures, but what I saw was awe-inspiring anyway.

  6. Judy, I have this link marked. I might actually find the next incarnation of "Planet Brenda" somewhere in these pictures.

  9. Truly stunning... I remember as a child when my father brought me to our public library for an "Astronomy Night". They had highpowered telescopes set up, and I can remember seeing for myself for the very first time that Saturn really DID have rings! I was completely blown away seeing it for myself and not just in a textbook. To this day I've a fascination with our universe and beyond and I hope that sometime in my lifetime we'll all be able to take vacation trips into space!!

The pic of Europe at night below is also very cool. I saw one like this of the US too.
