A Resolution!

I usually don't make them, because I know from past experience that I seldom keep a resolution, but I have noticed for some time now that I need to change at least one thing about myself (Mr. kenju would argue that there are many others.....but....I could say the same thing about him).

I use too many exclamation points. I almost put one at the end of that sentence and in truth, it deserves one, but since I am trying to quit - I will restrain myself.

I promise to stop using exclamation points after nearly every sentence, and to only use one when it really needs to be there, like now! If you catch me using one where it doesn't need to be, will you call me on it? Thanks! (lol)

  1. Speaking of exclamation points I read once that in comic books exclamations points are always used instead of periods! I checked out my collection and that was right! There were no exclamation points! But it read no natural, I didn't even notice it!

  3. I resolve to give up self-denial. Therefore, if the urge strikes me to exclaim something, by golly, I'm a-gonna! Take THAT, boring statement!

I've missed coming here the last few days, and boy I mean it. You always have something worthwhile to share. And thanks for sending me to Michele's, what a flippin' cool idea!

  6. See now that is one great resolution! Hmmm... it would require a lot of effort for me to refrain I suppose, so good luck to you. I guess it's just that little piece of excitement we can throw in so the readers pick up on how great something really is to us. Maybe I'll remove sideways smiley guys from my text for 2007! Yeah!!!!! LOL! Happy New Year!

  7. Oh, but life is so much more thrilling with the exclamatory statements being properly punctuated....ellipses included.

Good luck with the resolution. You're strong to make one.

  13. If you feel an exclamation point coming, don't stifle it. It's sort of like a sneeze; if you try to stop it, it goes wrong and the people next to you get wet. You have to let fly, just.... ahhh.... ahhh... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. I'm not the resolution making type either. I do set goals but that's for any time of year.

That said, I sooooooooooooooooo undertand about that exclamation point(y) habit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's so fun to keep the key down to exagggggggggggerrrrrrrrrrrr8. ;)
Reminds me too about an article I read that said "work emails should not contain any exclamation points" and to reserve them for family. I suppose that's in keeping with the professionalism of no emotion showing.

  19. Exclamation points don't bother me. I should have used one there! I'm happy I did there! And there! And....I better stop!

  20. I overuse them too. But only when I'm being in my informal writing. It saves having to type out LOL and stuff like that which I've never taken to.

You only used 2 in that post.
