More in the library:
1. a small coffee table centerpiece, incorporating natural bird's nests and cardinals, our state birds.
I used corkscrew willow, pines, cedars, red ribbons, holly and two bird's nests, which were gathered near Roxboro, NC. 2. Atop a tall bookcase, I did two arrangements to flank a bust, and added gold beaded garland.
3. A potted weeping cherry tree sits at the top of the stairs in the foyer. Every branch is wrapped with little white lights and the whole tree appears to be showering light down the stairs. 
BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL, Judy! How long does it take to "decorate" every area of the mansion that requires it? I LOVE that Pine Tree at the top of the stairs...It is so pretty and exceptionally fesive...all those little lights...I LOVE it all! My little tree that was made by my dear friend years and years ago has Cardinals on it...! I didn'r realize that Cardibals were the state bird of NC....!

So pretty and festive! I love the wreath with the hockey sticks and skates, and the weeping cherry is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThat tree has an almost ghostly appearance, at least in the photo. I love the hockey sticks on the wreath and the mantle arrangement. What fun. I took a trip to Longwood Gardens in my neck of the woods. The whole time I was thinking that you would love it!

ReplyDeleteThat cherry tree doesn't even look real. I thought it was some kind of light sculpture when I first looked at the picture. Even when I looked at the large version I was amazed at the quantity of lights.
The centerpiece on the library table is a sculpture. The variety of textures and variations in color really make it stand out. I bet it smells quite nice too!

ReplyDeleteQuick suggestion for too-dark photos: does your camera allow you to adjust the ISO setting? Most do - it's usually buried deep in some menu, though. By cranking it to 400 or 800, you can increase the sensitivity for non-flash images, thus preserving the color integrity of the image in less-than-ideal lighting.
Digital allows these wondrous on-the-fly changes. With film, you were always stuck till the roll was finished.
I came on my own tonight. I hardly need an excuse :)
I just love these posts about the Governor's Mansion, and I'm just looking at the Capital City Club. Are you a designer yourself? I gather you are a trustee. How I wish I had this kind of talent. When I first read your latest post (which I couldn't leave a comment for), I thought the 14' tree was in your house. You must have one big house, I thought.
ReplyDeleteFran: I am a floral designer, but not a trustee. The trustees are prisoners from the local prison who work at the Governor's Mansion. I have my own business (Tickle Your Fancy), but I also work for another florist (Mel Day, Dogwood Tree Floral), and together with his other employees, we do 2 city clubs, a restaurant and the Governor's Mansion. I also do a few private homes and will post those pics later on.
