Love Is.......

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion...That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. [We] had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.
This is a quote by Louis de Bernieres, and I found it at http://everydaystranger.net/archives/122673.php. If you don't read Helen everyday, you are missing out on some of the best writing in blogdom.

It's so true...once the fires of lust have subsided, what we all hope to find is pure love.

Hello, Michele sent me.

Yep, I read Helen Everyday every day.

How true this is. Real love is hard to find these days. I think that's because it takes commitment and work, and those seem to have died along with Mr. Common Sense.

Hi Judy, of course Michele sent me! I am impressed by what I see: and will link you asap as my Blogroll gets finally initiated..... I emailed myself the post above because that IS exactly where I find myself at this time.... in the throes of finding out if we are still one tree or indeed two now, and hoping we are.
Thanks for the view, Doug.
....and formally a Florist myself for over 15 years - the business side of it burned me out, and I miss the creativeness of working with the flowers more than I ever miss the business side of it...

This is beautiful. I think that love is the ability to accept someone exactly as they are, even the traits that you don't like and still love them anyway....you are soooo right about folks falling out of love and into real love. We are lucky if we find that.

I'll have to bookmark this one so I can check it out sometime, right now I'm still struggling to catch up with you! Oh the woes of blog-surf-dependency *sigh*
